Went up to sand bar. All along the way there were tons of shad on side of bank whites hittin em also. Fished fast water at narrow spot caught 45 whites nice size. Caught eighteen blue cats to ten pounds. A first for me the blues at least that many and size.

Have not caught one drum but headed to calaham in april to kill em on crawdads. Last year slammed ten pounders and nice bass on bank got a ten eight bass and a eight pound bass while drum fishing. The blues were caught on minnows one foot under bobber cast up in very tight cover of fallin trees. Also BEWARE HUGE SNAKES ALL OVER THE TREES ALMOST TOUCHED ONE SIX FEET LONG BEFORE I SAW IT. Fished the spot right after the sand bar and before the narrow rapid. Kyle lets get some crappie together. Im ready to learn. Dont have a clue how or where to catch crappie.

Was there a couple of weeks ago, he ain't lying about the snakes, saw 4 cottonmouths over 4'. They really like sunning themselves on fallen logs when we have cool mornings.
Is the fast water that you are talking about right before the hard right turn that's before the rapids?
I'd like to head back there this weekend but not sure if the white bass will still be in there, I see the end near.

Exactly Medina I think the amount of shad that are in the river is slowing the bite down. I have never seen this much bait. The water color is horrible too. And it is thinning out. Not sure i want to risk another long haul for just a few.

You can catch as many as you want. You can only keep 25. He never said how many he kept.

luvtxfishing, oh yeah, I forgot to ask. Were you trotlining? When I was a kid, my dad and uncles used to catch a mess of drum (gaspergou) and cats like that in the Nueces on trotlines, using mussels for bait.

No was not trotlining. I was using two way leaders with shrimp on the top and worm on the bottom. Works like a champ.

Thanks for the tip luvtxfishin. We've been having pretty good luck on the whites for the last 3 weekends, and we plan to go this weekend also. If the whites have shut down, we're going to give your method a try for the gaspergou and catfish. No, even if they haven't shut down, we're going to give your method a try.
