http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/Toxic..._117771498.html"A toxic golden alga bloom that formed during the first week of January on Lake Granbury appears to be headed down the Brazos River toward Lake Whitney, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said Thursday." “An official estimate of dead fish in the river has not yet been completed; however, biologists believe the number of fish killed in the Brazos River over the past week may very well surpass the estimated number of fish killed in Lake Granbury over the past two months,” the Parks and Wildlife Department said in a press release Thursday." Some of us on this forum fish Hamm Creek, looks like it's going to get (if not already) pretty bad around there. Very sad this seems to be a horrible repeating cycle for these bodies of water.

I wonder why TPWD doesn't put a couple of filtering nets across the brazos to catch the algea. The Brazos is NOT a deep or wide river, so it would not cost very much to run a net or two. I don't get it?

A net would never catch it nor prevent it

I don't get it? because that wouldn't stop algae...any "net" fine enough to stop algae would be so fine that limited water could get through and act more like a dam, especially after it gets plugged up...

The only way to stop it is for the weather to warm up.

Anyone want top buy a waterfront lot on granbury? I bought there hoping that in would get better in the years to come but now I'm thinking I need to sell and buy on fork or Tawak. I'm kidding, unless someone wants to buy it...

Just spent the last three days there on a lake house vacation. I caught nothing! Not even a bite! There were dead cats and striper's floating in the lake. A few dead sandies too. The scarry thing was there was no bait fish at all. Under the dock lights at night, nothing. No minnows, no perch, nothing. I bought some minnows and when I put them in my flow trow they were dead within a couple of hours. I had no idea there was an algae bloom before I made my reservations. I knew PK had issues but this sucks! The other thing is the overwhelming number of comerants aka Water Turkeys. There were 100's if not more of them. Same with pelicans. Comerants are terrible birds. They eat all of the bait fish. I don't know why they are protected.

I pray it does not travel down into Whitney, but I cant see how its avoidable. It doesnt travel to lakes that already have had it in the past. Once a lake has it , it is always there. The problem is when the conditions are right, it blooms. its always there but doent become toxic until it blooms. cool clear water is what it likes. Lots of rain and/or warmer temps will kill the bloom. Rain brings in muddy water and the sun cant create photosynthesis to produce bloom.
