Red Oak Municipal Lake is on the Texas Parks and Wildlife site categorized under Texas Community Fishing Lakes. That alone would make you think there are fish in it, but it's not on the stocking report. I can't find anything about it online anywhere. There used to be a lot of trees there, so I don't know if the Lake(pond) was there the entire time and not visible or if it s just a few years old? If anyone has any info on this pond let me know. It is really close to my house. I have never seen anyone fishing in it, nor have I seen anything splashing around. I don't want to look like a fool standing next to an empty pond. LOL

Back in the day it was a killer bass pond that we use to sneak into back in high school. Last year the city drained it and cleaned it. Right now there are no fish in it. Hopefully it will be stocked soon!

It was probably loaded with fish when they drained it.

The city of Red Oak's parks dept recently added a kids playground between the library and the lake. There are new paved sidewalks and a Texas Parks and Wildlife community fishing lake regulations sign. The sign says 2 pole limit, minimum requirements for Bass, Catfish and Sunfish. However there is nothing on the stocking report on: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/fishstock_smallwater.phtml#R so I am not sure if it has been stocked or the signs are up early. Has anybody tried it recently?

I have gone fishing there 2 or 3 times in the past month and have only caught 1 bass that wieghed around 2 pounds. I am usually the only person there. There is a lot of vegitation in the water that makes it hard to fishing without dragging a bunch of plants back with each cast.

I know the post is old but it's the only forum that appears when I type information for ponds/lakes around me.
Here is a TWPD report: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/action/stock_bywater.php?WB_code=1085

Bass and catfish in 2011 & 2012

Wouldn't mind knowing if anyone has been there recently and caught anything.

It's been stocked according to TPWD. I fished a bank tourney there this winter and we didn't catch much. 3lber won the tourney LOL.
Pre-2010 you could go and catch 20-30 bass in the 2-4lb range all the time....not so much anymore.

I wouldn't really use Winter fishing as a decent measure though. I will make a trip there myself. If I catch anything I will upload some pictures.

There are still a good amount of 8"-10" bass in there. largest lately was a 14 inch bass. the largest was a 21 incher a few years back. lots of bluegill in there. THE lake gets a lot of pressure on weekends. It is not the same as people have not followed the regulations and kept everything that gets on their hook, bass wise that is. I personally have not caught any catfish from there, of course I haven't fished for any either.
I do good on flukes(shad) and T-rig Pumpkin seed zoom worms/lizards.
I go there in the mornings after work. usually get 1-3 for an hour or two of walking the banks, never tear them up by any means, but fun just to get out there. All released for the next time.

thank you ladfd92 that sounds more like what I've been wanting to hear. Do you fish weightless or with a bullet weight on you worms?

used to not matter what time of year it was...you could always catch a ton of fish there. Not so much.

use a bullet weight in the worms and the flukes to get them out when the water is low. There is a band of grass/moss about 20-30 feet from the edge pretty much around the whole lake. I have luck getting bait past it and letting fall past moss. I have tried weedless wacky worms with luck too,
The deep end is at the south end by the dam(of course) the rock levees are actually about 7'-9' deep. When the lake was really dry I could walk to the bottom of the rocks and I had look up too see the top. The last good rain actually put more water in the lake almost to the normal level.

May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.
