Hey guys,

Its been forever since I have fished Calaveras. I was a little kid fishing with my dad so I didnt pay any attention to where we fished on the lake. I only cared about catching. Now that I am grown and have a boat of my own I dont know where to fish on the lake. I know its a little early for the reds but they should be heating up any day.
So would any of you guys like to share some tips on good spot to troll on the lake? I have the downriggers and all the equipment just need a few tips on the spots. I know some guys dont like to tell there spots but I thought I would ask. Dont worry about me catching them all. I might keep one a day and then its catch and release.

Any tips or tricks of the trade would be greatly appricated. I know a hundered good "holes" down on the bay so if you feel the need to trade I can do that too.

Also, does anyone have any digital maps of the lake

Thanks again.

The Reds should start moving once the warmer weather starts settleing in. Use silver or gold spoons. Try fishing the channels and look for sloaps, ledges, and drop offs. The area just east of the power plant is usually good. Also the 181 Cove, and anywhere by the Dam is good. There are several other drop offs all over the lake that also hold fish. Hope this helps out a little. Good luck.

Troll rocks nearest the launch has a hump that comes up to six seven feet deep surrounded by twenty feet of water. You will snag up a lot. Tons of people lose lines there striper fishing. Rattle traps or swim baits like storm bright green grubs work. The dam all the way to 181 in ten to fifteen feet. Left of boat ramp nice hump. Power lines to right of ramp. Thats all i know. And of course THE WALL IS AWESOME.

yeah, the redfish trolling has been slow for me as of 2 weeks ago, haven't been since, but the wall has produced redfish for me everytime after trolling doesn't. If i was going tomorrow i would troll if your dead set on finding them, then after some time move to wall.

Try and get on the far right side. You can cast out about 10-20 yards off the bank with head on shrimp on the bottom. Alot of redfish there, you will probably have to sort thru the rats! If you have a nice south wind you can always rig up a balloon rig with live tilapia or shad, or even shrimp if its all you have. Just let the balloon get carried with the wind out as far as you have line. I like to get close to the dogleg. Be respectful of other fishermans lines. Most out there DO NOT.

Oh ok. now by far right side you mean the side closest to the ramps correct and not the side closest to the 181 cove.

Powerlines to the east of the power plant at night. Limited everytime and even got 50 in one night last year. Dead shrimp on the bottom. But like you we don't keep very many if any at all. Not worth killing a bunch of beautiful fish but we will keep a nice 30 incher or two
