Lots of talk about Rollover closing at fishing show last week. Pro anglers have already heard and argument is done. 2 years, pass is gone. This is if you trust the word of professional fisherman that attend these functions. 2 years = gone.

Yup. The state doesnt want to spend the money to keep it cleared out....but they'll blow it in 1000 other ways, wont they ?
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

That was the word. He described it as everyone is going to lose their favorite fishing spot. It is a great spot if you are not on a boat. The pro angler said just think of thousands of fish that got caught there every year that won't be caught any more. It's good news for boat people.

What a BUMMER !!! You know, even people who have boats and/or who dont want to fish in their boats due to rough seas, still would like to have a place to fish off the bank.
What an unfortunate dilemma for everyone!!!
So would it be fair to say that by 2013, the pass would be closed

Unfortunately, I think it may be as early as winter 2012 (assuming we're still alive). Summer 2013 at latest. This summer may be the last. The talk didn't give exact dates but that is what I gathered from listening.

It's funny....the real estate was originally donated so people could fish for free. Well..they didnt own the water....only the land. It would seem to me that if a family was generous enough to donate something like that, the state could pony up the funds to keep it cleared out. Gotta be cheaper than paying for the running a state park all year, eh?

To add to the ongoing reports on RP I fished there this morning. Waves weren't high at all but the current was ripping through there at a good clip. I didn't catch anything and neither was anyone else.
I tried spoons, jigging gulp shrimp, clankin rap, and squid on a bottom rig.

I was at least able to find out that driving I-10 east and coming down from the north was a lot faster than going to Galveston and taking the ferry. There's just too many stoplights on the main road.

Flounder Are Bitting!!! Could it be that its the "Flounder Run"? It sure did seem like it. I got there Wednesday and waded on the bayside of the pass and caught 1 flounder and was a keeper. I was using live mud minnows. Thats was all for that day. Rumors were that flounder were being well caught on the guld side of the bridge, and plenty they said. Note: Results are far better to fish on that side on the outgoing tide!!! When I was wading it was n the incoming tide. The tide was not going to change until 2 or 2 AM that night. Thats when I set up camp and waited unitl 6 AM that morning. As soon as I place my line in the water the flunder were biting. There was this lady who is a regular there, here name is Ms Katie, a great flounder angler, she fished next to me and she was catching them better that I was. She caught 2-3 keepers and I caught 1 more keeper. I caught 2 more but they were barely under sized. Then they stopped as soon as the tide was changing. I regret that I should have woken up sooner to cath some more before the tide turned. We were using live finger mullet and live mud minnows. Folks, the flounder ARE biting!!! While I was there, there was this boat in the middle of the pass. Come to find out that they were getting some ground samples from the ground in preparation to setting up barriers for filling in the pass. I did ask a couple of anglers that fish there routinely and Ed Snyder who is a local there and who takes pictures to post on a crystalbeach news website. He says that they are still fighting the filling of the pass but noone really knows when they are going to fill it in. But it sure diddnt look too promising when we saw that boat getting that ground samples from Roll Over Pass . The water clarity was green and clean. Some other fishermen wewre catching plenty of sheep head and black drum. I didnt see much action of specs YET! Oh and another thing....It Was Very Clean there TOO .

Last summer me and my cousin Paul went there..But instead of fishing we cleaned up the whole entire side of Rollover Pass ..The Bay side..Not the other side..It all was disgusting...Becauuse we always go there too..And we love it..Great people too.. But Sometimes..People need to understand..For every 1 person who just leaves 1 piece of trash ..and add in all the people there..Even if they didnt mean it..and even if the wind is blowing they should run and pick it up.And the funny part was people kept asking us what volunteer group we were from..And some thought we were doing community service..And wondered why we didnt have our orange vests on..We just said we are doing it because we love to fish...We didnt catch any fish that day..But..We caught a lot of trash...I hope they keep the pass open 4ever...

Fished there again yesterday and didn't get a single bite. Probably my last trip there though. It's 30 more miles than Surfside from where I'm at in Houston and a little crowded. Normally I wouldn't mind a lot of people, but someone having 4-6 rods set out and not caring if the lines drift in front of you gets annoying in such a small place.

Actually... Jean,
Sometimes people do go to fish for a certain target of fish. And thats what Ms Katie and I were fishing for. And I am pretty sure that there's plenty of other anglers who DONT know where to fish who can get results as good or even better than "The" angler who knows.
Nevertheless, Ms Katie and I had a Great time catching them flounder side by side. (Just Flounder)!!!
