What do you do when someone is taking a lot of fish out of a pond when it's posted illegal?

I'm pretty sure how I'm going to handle the situation, but wanted to get your feeling on it.

The lake is about 15 acres & he has consistantly taken out 3-4lber's a week (estimate) for the summer.

I would report his butt in a hearbeat. You gotta take care of the lakes and ponds so that our sons will have the same chances we have at some great fishing.

Is this private property that is posted? If so, I'd call the authorities.

No, it's a city park but it's posted as a $2000 fine for taking fish for being contaminated.

It's sad to know it's going on. I guess I'll have patrol the lake everyday after work. If I see him with fish he's going to get a warning.

If I see him do it again, it'll be reported. I'm not sure that it will do any good, but someones gotta do it.

Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't bother to warn him. You have no personal authority, and it will likely just make him angry (with you). Just go ahead and report the incident (along with a description and license number of his car) and let the police or game wardens decide whether he needs to be warned.

I had a huge problem of fish thefts on my lake near my house. I reported it and the agents spent a lot of time watching but could not catch them. I ended up making a sturdy mount for my game stalker camera next to the place they was sneaking in. In a week I had four photos of the trespassers.

He's been doing this all summer, and you've waited until now to do something about it?!

I would put a note on his vehicle telling him youve been watching him and you are getting ready to report him. Tell him what hes been doing is wrong because the money you and everyone else paid for a fishing license was used to put those fish there. Tell him one more time and no more mister nice guy...he will be reported...period.

One thought: the "fishing for dinner" people often have a different temperment than many of us "catch and releasers." This guy might be carrying something more than spare lures in his tacklebox.

If it were me, I would just report it and not taking the chance of an altercation.

Good advice S&N and Coff, that's the ticket (pun intended).

Texas Zman, if I'd have found out he was doing it sooner I would have done something about it sooner. Trust me. I found out the weekend before my post.

Always assume the best & expect the worst.

The place is not hard to find. I'll give you a hint...it's close to Hulen & I30. The deticated will find it. Be careful though, there can be some rough looking folks out there. You can be sure that I carry more than clippers out there just in case. If you ever want some company I live half a block from it just give me a shoot 817-909-5800.

The things we do to fish I tell ya!!! who_knows
