I going bank fishing for the first time at Braunig Lake. I want to use my new surf rods to catch some quality fish. Can anyone suggest some good bait and rigging for that bait? I'm taking by brothers who don't fish a lot and would like to make sure they catch some memorable fish.

Eugene, I just moved to SA about 2 months ago, and did a little reasearch on Braunig.

This map might help: http://www.tx-outdoors.com/freshwater_angler/features/braunig/info_sheet.PDF

Also, you can use the TerraServer to find (older) ariel pics/topo map of Braunig, Calaveras, and most anything else.

Again, I've never fished Braunig so can't offer any spots. Deeper water would be my guess though, as the temperature fluctuations lately have been too extreme to bet on much shallow water activity.

As for bait, shad/tilapia seem to be the most popular baits. For lures, rattletraps and spoons. This is all assuming you're after reds, which I would be if fishing at Braunig

Maybe I'll see you out there this weekend if the weather is good.
