Any fishing reports out there?

I've been skunked 3 days fishing in a ROW!

Found 12 crappie up Spring Creek 2 Sundays ago.
9 keepers.
10 feet of water, 2 feet off the bottom

But haven't caught a white in 6 weeks.
Lots of seagulls, but they haven't been working the water much.
And LOADS of cormorants. They like to nest South of the island.
Might make a good catfish spot.....

I would work the dam with a pearl or chrome shallow diving crankbait. Place your boat near the rocks and throw parallel to rocks ahead of youself. Might also cast about ten feet away from the rocks. The dam is where 95% of the whites spawn. You are wasting your time up river for whites.

Hey Dave,

I lived in Angelo for about ten years and am about to be moving back. I was out there a couple of weeks ago and drove out to the north and south pools to check things out. Found that the water is so low that you cant put in to either pool off of the ramps at the EQ channel. Drove in deeper on the roads going to both pools but the roads are so rough that I figure it will be hard on a persons baot to get there. I also heard that they are about to close it off to ATVs only and that will stop any traffic back there to people putting in off of the bank. I also looked at the north pool and the ramp off of the Mertzon highway right there just west of Twin Mountains. Dont think can put in there either. So, my question is, where is the best place to put a boat in at iehter pool. Thanks for some tips.

I haven't figured out how to put in at the south pool yet.

I've heard there is one rocky shore line that can be used. But I think it requires some wading. So I'm waiting for a little warmer weather.

On the north pool we have been using the long ramp off the Mertzon highway that you were referring to.

There is about 1.5 - 2 feet of water at the bottom right now.
But I imagine within the next 2 months, there will be no way to get in at that ramp.

So.... not sure what will happen unless we get some rain.

Welcome back!

And we need some SERIOUS rains this spring or another ramp.
Or there won't be much fishing going on.

If you have any more questions, I'll do my best to help you out.

Thanks Dave! Cant wait to be back. Heard a lot of great reports last year from the north pool and cant wait to fish it again. That is why I was out there scouting. On the south pool I went down the paved road straight past the ramp at the EQ. It is rough but when the road splits you can turn left and go about a 1/4 mile and can back in off of the bank. However, the road is rough. You might want to check it out for yourself before you drag your boat down there. That is what concerned me when I looked at it. And like I said, I have heard that they may be closing it off to Atvs only past the pavement due to drug deals bing made back there. I am sure glad that those guys could mess it up for the rest of us.

If you don't need anything fancy, the KOA has some neat little log cabins to let. Shower and bathroom seperate, but cheap and cozy. they run about $39 a night. Sleeps 3 or 4. http://koa.com/campgrounds/san-angelo/#

The city is in the process of installing pipe fencing on the access roads to Twin Buttes in order to restrict access and thus decrease the amount of illegal activity (dumping/littering, drug deals etc) going on out there. I attended a city council meeting a couple of months ago when this proposal was on their agenda. From what I know, the pipe fencing will be installed on the main access points (off hwy 67 to main boat launch, Boys Ranch access road, north and south accesses off EQ channel, and an access road that exists coming from the Grassy Meadows area of Lake Nasworthy. Once the pipe fencing is completed there will be gates with padlocks installed. People who want vehicular access will have to register and pay an annual fee to obtain a key for these locks. I just wish the city would inform the public a bit more proactively on what their plan (timeline)is.

I agree Bassnhog

But I was getting tired of the gunshots echoing off the water and shore lines.

It's a bit scary when you are on your boat and hear bullets ricocheting by.

But you are right. A little public information would be nice.
I mean.. Facebook page.. Newspaper... something.

Hell even a sign out at the lake.
