I have a 2005 Triton 176 Magnum with a 115 Yamaha 2 stroke. It has a 22 pitch stock prop on it that was worked on last year. Lower unit was changed about 3 years ago.
Boat is only hitting 43 MPH GPS at 4900 RPM WOT.
I know the boat is capable of more than that and am pretty sure it was much faster when I got it 5 years ago. I cant remember for sure but it seems the performance might have dropped about the same time I got the new lower unit. I didn't have a GPS before so I'm not sure. Rarely on some days with the right chop and right amount of gas in the tank I can hit 46-47. I have tried moving the motor up and down but didn't get any better results. I am sure this boat could hit 50 with the right setup.
Any suggestions?

You are not turning enough rpm. I would check my linkage to make sure that my throttle plates were opening up all the way when you have the throttle wide open.

who worked the prop?
and was it done at the same time the lower unit was changed?

could be the prop needs to be "retuned"

The prop was worked on last year the lower unit 3 years ago. There were a few dings in it. Local guy did it. Didn't ask him to change much. I told him the problem I was having.

More info: As I trim up the motor I get top speed at 4900 RPM. If i keep trimming up the RPM goes up to 5400 but i lose speed to 41 mph.

If this started when the lower was replaced ( I'm asking here) could it have a different gear ratio? I am not sure if different ratios are available for that size motor. But it would seem to match the change in performance.
