Ok so when we had the first warm weather this year I started to catch crappie in the northern creeks. The eggs in the females were still not ready yet. Since all these cold fronts I have not been able to catch hardly any. Is the spawn over? Or just postponed due to the weather? Or will they spawn anyways? Just getting frustrated with all the hard luck and wondering if anyone else is having better luck.

It's not over. They have just moved back out some. They will be back in there once it warms up again.

It hasn't even started much yet. We was catching them pretty good a couple of days but yes the cool snap pushed them back. A few days of warmer weather and they will be back going again. The spawning period should run up to the 1st of May.

Read the Slabmesilly thread.I just did. Everything you ever wanted to know about crappie fishing but were afraid to ask.
He says the spawn will continue untill the water temp. reaches 75 degrees. It's not even 60 yet.

Awesome guys. Thanks for calming me down. Guess I'm just ready for some warmer weather to kick off some great fishing. Sometimes I start second guessing my self weather it's me or just other circumstances. Thanks for the reassurance.

I certainly share and understand your "Jitters". I fish canyon lake and am petrified I will miss the spawn. But from hearing the chatter here, I don't think think it has started there yet. At least, I HOPE that is the case

I think the weather really pushed them back. We caught 14 keepers off a Ray Roberts northern creek last sunday. We went the next day which was alot cooler and didn't catch a single fish.

The creeks, I am in, the crappie moved furthur upstream to shallow water and are spawning 2-3 ft down on any hard surface.

I don't think we have hit the peak for the spawn yet. This time of year the weather is still to unpredictable. Give it a couple of weeks and it will be on.

here in east texas, the water temp is 57- cooler than it was 10 days ago...just slows things down a bit. not a bad thing.
