All in all, are the bass pro rigs such as the johnny morris and carbonlite as good as comparable reels made by pflueger and quantum or should I stay away from them?

I think they are comparable to the ones you mentioned. I personally beleive that shimano and daiwa stand apart from all the rest as being better reels....

If they supported their reels with available parts, then no, there'd be no problem with Bass Pro reels at all. They are actually pretty decent reels. Down the road when the reel needs minor service you're SOL.
I like some of the performance at the prices offered and I maintain my own reels, and I like what you get for the price from BPS (I have a JM Gold and Carbonlite).
Shimano and Daiwa make great reels, but recently they've taken a lot of options out at the pricepoints I prefer ($100-$200), particularly for lefties. Pure fishing/BPS branded reels, and Quantum for that matter are doing a much better job keeping us lefties with options.
As long as the BPS reel has a metal frame it's at least a decent reel for the price, particularly from a performance standpoint.

I like the BPS reels, especially the CarbonLite. Where else can you get a reel for under $100 on sale that weighs under 7 ozs. and performs as well as it does. But, I'd say any reel you buy for under $100 is disposable and not worth fixing if something goes wrong. I figure I'm better off just investing that "repair" money in something new regardless of who made the reel.

I am a little late with this response regarding BPS Reels.
I repair and service many BPS reels and have no problems getting parts. After several years repairing those reels I am convinced they compare to any reels except Shimano brand.
Actually, BPS, Pfuleger, Browning, Silstar, and even some of the ABU series are very close and many are made in the same factory. Maby of the internal parts are inter-changeable.
Don't be afraid of the $100 dollar reels for with proper maintenance and care they will last many years.

Bass Pro reels by and large ARE Pfluegers. I just took a set of gears out of a Bass Pro Rick Clunn reel along with the roller bearing and clutch set up and put it in a Pflueger Trion LP. Same reel but the Pflueger had Aluminum sideplate but everything bolted up. I had to do this because of what was mentioned above. No parts availability. I have had this Trion that belonged to a customer over a year waiting for a junker to fix his because of a broken clutch cam.
Like said above, on an ongoing basis I cannot pay retail for parts like expected from BPS. Pflueger doesn't even have correct part numbers for many of their reels and getting the right part from them is iffy at best.
I work on rods and reels for a living, not a hobby and see anywhere around 1100-1500 reels a year now of all kinds from Saltwater Big Game to Fly reels. I have quit servicing the Pflueger platforms due to parts issues and the poor parts network that all of them have.
For the best 100 buck reel out there in a low profile you cannot go wrong with a Shimano Citica at $119.00 or even a Canan but to have the Aluminum frame you are better off with the Citica. Now the Pfluegers and BPS reels in that price range have aluminum frames and some even have Aluminum sideplates, but the innards tend to be more plastic than anything else and ultimately something is going to fail.
Take a look on the net and see who services who and go from there. You have a very limited amount of reputable choices for Service on any of those products.

I bought a Johnny Morris Signature Series Baitcast and took it back after using it once. It was heavy and loud. Overall, it was difficult to use it compared to my Curado. I'll stick to Shimano and Daiwa.

Have a JM combo and wish I would have spent my money somewhere else. Never have liked the setup. Had a basspro guy say pflueger made some of their reels, sometimes it was who just gave them the lowest bid. Makes you wonder who's making what these days and slapping xyz company's name on the product.
