Well it's been so long since I've logged in that I can't remember my old username and password anymore. Had to make a new one.

Ever have a pickup ride rough after tire rotation? I have a 2011 F-250 diesel that I really like. I got my tires rotated a couple of weeks ago and since then it's been riding pretty rough between 70 and 80 mph. I've had my tires balanced twice since then and the second time they said they were way out of balance. Got back on the highway and still had the issue. The only other thing I can think of is alignment, but I can't imagine being out of alignment already at 9000 miles. Haven't hit curbs or anything that should have done it. It was a definite change after getting them rotated so I'm not really too sure what to do. Just wanted to see if anyone has ever had this happen. It doesn't always do it, but sometimes it feels like I'm riding a rumble strip between 70 and 80 mph.

Also wanted to know what kind of fuel mileage you other 2011 F250 owners get. Mine seems real up-and-down. If I'm going 60-65 I can get 20+, then if I go 80, sometimes I'll get in the 14-15 range. Also, if I watch it while cruising down the highway after the message comes up that says "Cleaning Exhaust Filter", my mileage will drop from 16-17 to about 10 mpg for 5 or 10 minutes. I thought this was what the DEF tank was supposed to prevent. Finally, the book shows the truck to have a 26 gallon tank, but my gauges and computer seems to me that I have a 21 or 23 gallon tank. It'll show 50 miles to empty sometimes when I have only used like 19 gallons. Frustrating because I'm getting 100 miles less per tank than I did with my 2005 F250.

Like I said, I love the truck and all it's features, but these are a couple issues I'm wondering about. Any help is appreciated.

Alignment wont cause the kind of problems that you are describing Sounds like either they didnt get the tires balanced properly or you have a tire that is internally seperating.

Thanks Chuck. I'm hoping the tire isn't separating. Only 9,000 miles on them. Goodyear Wrangler A/T so not a cheap tire. Recently moved to Houston to start work and haven't found a shop I really like yet so I went to a NTB and a Discount and neither of the guys that worked on it seemed very competent. I think I'll take it back to my old trusty guy whenever I get a chance. Thanks for the info.

I have Goodyear Wranglers and have on previous trucks and never a problem. Have had problems with Discount Tire not having help capable of balancing tires. If you have a 'trusty' guy you better go to him.

Yeah I've had several sets and haven't ever had problems. I'll take it elsewhere. Appreciate the input.

Just what others have stated not all tire places have competent people that can balance tires properly especially heavy tires. I've used Discount Tire for years on our fleet vehicles and have experienced the same thing and finally found a guy at the Grapvine Tx store that seemed to know his stuff and he agreed balancing big heavy truck tires is alot different than the rubberbands on 24"s hammer go figure.

sounds like you have a tire or tires that have heavy spots in them. You need to find a tire dealer that has a balancer that has a pressure arm that puts pressure on the tire when it spins and it has a little TV screen that shows where the spot is. They will have to break down the tire and rotate it on the wheel and remount it to get it out. If the spot is bad enough, the tire will have to be replaced. They use those balancers on high performance vehicles.

I would try but unless you purchased some kind of tire protection plan you might be on your own. New vehicles normally do not come with one. I had a small cut in the sidewall rubber that was noticed on the first oil change. If had bought a separate road hazard policy I would have been covered.

This is true unless the tire itself is defective. I cut one of my tires on my Chevy, it cost me to replace it- not warrenty. However, if his tires are bad or have a defect, then warrenty would kick in.

Usually has to have less than 12k miles to warranty tires.

Had a tire shop here that kept having the same problems, people kept coming back with balance problems. Turns out their machine was out of calibration. Try another tire shop. Can you tell which tire it is?

I wound up getting Michelins on my 2011. I personally don't think I like them as much as the Goodyears that I have had. I have a friend who is a general manager at a Ford dealership. I get some sweetheart deals so, I buy a new truck every 2-3 years. This is my 6th Super Duty since 2000. I love the trucks and keep seeing improvement with each new model except the 2008 I traded for this one. Very poor mileage and was in the shop everytime I turned around. This one is a beast. It runs almost like a couple of 7.3s with a chip. I only have 7000 miles and have not gotten the 20mpg as others say they are getting. But after 13 on the road and 9 in town with 2008, I am far more pleased.

Hawg, My dad has an '08 and I think he just got lucky. He has probably 70k on it now and it hasn't been to the shop one time (other than basic oil change type stuff) since he bought it new in late '07. I put a bully dog on it for him so he gets 16 on the highway, still not great.

I can only get 20 mpg on my 2011 when I'm going 55-60 and really feathering it. I have typically been getting 16.5 - 17.5 when driving in the 78-80 range like typical. But yes, it can get up and go. I'm contemplating putting a programmer on it. Can't imagine what it would be like then.

I have liked the fact that it is quiet, but I'm used to the good 'ole American rumble that came from my 2005 with a glaspack and 6" tip. Do you know what kind of options there are as far as beefing up the exhaust on the new ones? I didn't know how the filter system, etc. would affect things.

You would really need to talk with an expert. The fact that I know I am not going to hang onto the truck lends me to think there is no need in pouring money into it.
I got my 08 in May of 07 (they came out real early that year) Picked it up one day and left for the Smoky Mountains the next. Put 3800 on it in a week. Month and half later it is in the shop for an oil leak. Was told it was so new no parts were available. They had to go to Ford Central in Detroit for the gaskets. Stayed in the shop 8 weeks waiting for gaskets and o-rings. Got it back and it developed a water leak. It would only leak water on my garage floor. I guess it was allergic to my concrete. Was about a 7 week ordeal finding it and fixing it.The mechanics drove it home at night to try and find it. One put more miles on it in 3 weeks than I did in 2 months. Got it back and guess what, it leaked again. Ford looked at it and couldn't find it. They called me to come pick it up and when we walked out to the back lot where it was parked BAM! there was water underneath. Two more weeks and it is fixed. Then one day right before it ran out of 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. I notice water on the floor. I took it back in and told the service manager what was going on. Not to worry my friend, he says, we are putting radiators in almost all of the 08's.
Well it seemed as if it kind of lined out and Ford starting sending me propaganda on the 2011's. I really had decided not to buy another first year production until I went and drove one. The rest is history, came back from driving a 2011 and sat down at the computer with my buddy and ordered one that afternoon. Game over.
