Plan on going fishing tomorrow, so I went to the store today to get some chicken liver. Unfortunately, they didn't have any. I then remembered reading somewhere that people have used hot dogs and cheddar dogs for bait, so I picked up a pack of cheddar dogs. Anybody have any experience with using these as bait? I was thinking about cutting them up tonight and putting them in a ziplock bag with some garlic salt and olive oil & let 'em sit overnight....

Let us know how it works out for you. I have heard that hot dogs do work.

Put a little chili on top with onions...mmmmmmm!

Don't see why it wouldn't work.

When I have used hot dogs its hard for me not to sling them off-

Is there a secret that I don't know yet?

I mean about the hot dogs.

Hot dogs or chicken liver, stretch a tiny piece of panty hose around the bait; it not only keeps the bait on the hooks, but allows the scent to carry through the water. I've actually caught multiple fish on the same piece of bait by doing this!

have been fishing with hot dogs for years...great bait actually.

best ones i used is the cheapest ones at walmart they have all three(chicken, pork, beef) they are only 89 cents.

i would suggest you buy a rotisserie chicken also at walmart (you know the ones that are up front by the cash register...it's a whole chicken)any flavor will do...eat all your chicken...then empty you hot dogs into everything else bones, fat, juices, etc you can let that soak into the hot dogs in the fridge for a couple of days.

it is the one bait that never fails for me...i have even caught a few large carp using this bait.

O and if you want it to stay on the hook better just cut the pieces smaller and make sure your hook goes through both sides of the skin.

Never give up, never surrender.

Anything in particular you do to keep the bread from getting soggy and falling off the hook?
