Being that your not familiar with where to go on the Nueces I would go with the Guadalupe since it should be turning on soon enough and you won't know until you give it a try. That's why they call it fishing I guess! For info on the Guadalupe check out the thread "Medina and Canyon Whites."

Not so hard to figure out where to go on the Nueces, since you can't go so very far until you start coming to water only 3 ft. deep, past which you can not prudently go, unless you know the river. Perhaps it bears mentioning that there are stumps in the Nueces, as well as in the Guad. Just take it easy.
Don't recall anyone reporting a blowout day on the Guad yet. It can be frustrating when you can see them on the bottom, on both sides of the boat, and can't get a bite. That clear water sure is pretty, though.

We were at the Nueces two weeks ago and killed'em. I'm sure I caught over 100 fish myself. We launched from Live Oak Park (Google - Live Oak County Airport, George West). Once on Airport Rd, just go straight until you hit the park. We went several miles upstream in a flat bottom boat, getting out several times to push over the sand bars. You'll know you are "near" when you start seeing other folk. The hot and heavy action seems to be more upstream where we were, but people are catching fish all up and down that river. It also seems like the bigger females don't go as far north. This, of course, is conjecture. All I know is that I caught over 100 fish, and if I had to guess, I don't think 10% were females. I know, of the 25 I cleaned, I don't recall seing eggs in any of them. My buddy, who went a few days before me (maybe not as far north), caught almost females exclusively. Go figure....

Well Nueces reports are still tempting but I think we are going to hit the Guad. Its just an easier meeting place- He's in Boerne, Im in Seguin. Hopefully Im the first to report back a big day. We'll be throwing everything in the box and I'll pick up some minnows in case its slow.

If you can't tempt them into biting use a bare jighead and hook the minnow as a trailer through the lips.
Bounch along the bottom and black seems to work pretty well.
Let us know how it goes!

TexAg06, We'll be out there tomorrow as well. If you see two guys in a wooden boat that look like they don't know what they're doing, that's us

If I may, I have a question.....where does one buy minnows at Canyon? I'll be heading up 281 from 46 to Rebecca Creek. I don't recall ever seeing any baitshops on the way, but then again, I can't says I've ever looked for them.

The 2 I have used are The tackle box, and fishermans corner. Both on 306. Google them. I dont know of any on 281 or 46 because I usually come from Seguin and go 306. We'll be in a beat up 15 foot Kingfisher. Hopefully get on the water by 9AM.

Totally depends on what boat you are taking and if you are going to troll or throw or minnow fish. The rapids at the Nueces are almost a guarenteed limit. You will have to get out pull boat thru sand bar and fast narrow water. Also you will hit bottom and stumps pretty much every time. I keep saying I am going to mark them with bottles but im lazy. I like to stand in river and throw. Thats why I love Nueces hate fishin from boat.

Fishing report:
White bass - 0. Went up to the rapids and fished for about 30 minutes in both deep and shallow water. Then decided the fish weren't up that far and headed south of Cypress cove and started beating the sticks.
Crappie - 7
We were catcing the crappie in the shallows, around 3 ft (on roadrunners), so I reckon the spawn is on/starting? I think we could have caught quite a few more if the wind wasn't blowing 70 mph. I just couldn't hold the boat still in the gale force winds. Water temp in the shallows got up to 67 in the afternoon. It was 62 in the morning.
We also picked up three bass.

Yeah. Bad day for white bass for us too. No white bass up or down river for us. I saw one person actually pull one in. We went down to cranes mill, tried to deal with the wind for about 45 minutes and headed back up and fished the river some more with no luck. Wind was terrible.

We fished 2 wks back and put in at the 59 bridge, caught 20 in about 3 hrs trolling but that was three of us.

If you have a GPS, I can give you coordinates or a screenshot of what it looks like.
