My outboard is making that grinding sound whenever you tilt and trim the motor... I know there is an easy way to fix this. What type of grease/ lubricant do I need and where do I put it. (sorry for my lack of simple mechanical knowledge, but that is not one of my gifts). Thanks in advance.

Mine did the same thing. I took it in while it was still under warranty and they said that was common and it wouldn't hurt anything. I'm not sure if this is the right answer, but I had it for a couple more years and never had any problems with it.

Put a little dab of grease on the top of each stainless piston of the tilt. Use your finger.

Put a little dab of grease on the top of each stainless piston of the tilt. Use your finger. This will cure your problem. I put the same marine axel grease I use on my bearings. Good advise is to clean off with a paper towel about every 4 or 5 trips out and reapply a dab of grease on each pistion. You will never hear that loud screeching or grinding noise again.

If you use the Pro Rule T mount transom saver you can simply put some grease in the tubes that fit over the trim rods and it will keep them lubricated all the time.

Yamaha recommends white lithium grease but any type of grease will work in a pinch. Reminds me that I need to lube mine again as it is starting to make that creaking nose.
