Leave your plastic at home and throw some 1/2 ounce to 5/6 jigs where you'd throw your plastics. drag, hop, twich them just like you would the t and c rigs. Get bit a few times and get your confidence.

A jig is the numero uno best bait in your arsenal. You need to learn how to fish one as not only do they consistently produce bigger fish, but the presentations are so varied. The most basic technique is very similar to a Texas rigged soft plastic but slower with more hops and shaking in place. There's no way I could begin to tell you how to fish one on here so, here's some good advice from a longtime jig fisherman...if you can,
1. Fish it somewhere known to produce lots of bites, and then only take jigs and trailers. Once you've caught a few and gained confidence in the bait, you can use it almost anywhere and produce.
2. Go to that place with an experienced jig fisherman, getting bites and having someone along who is more experienced, will flatten the learning curve in a hurry!
3. Make sure you use the proper equipment. At least a 7 foot high-modulus graphite rod in a heavy blank with a fast action, a 7:1 or faster reel and good, stout line. I prefer 15-25 pound fluorocarbon for line.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

It took me a long time to get bites on a jig.. Just seems like a more subtle bite.. But well worth the effort in trying to master all of the jig fishing techniques!

My man,do like Fouzman said...FISH IT! It's the last piece that I have to add to my arsenal. Now when I go fishing,I ALWAYS have a jig tied on and I keep it wet. And I have caught fish. So just go out and fish it,my friend. That's how you learned everything else, right?

Jiggs, nuff said. Always have one tied on and always fish it. Shallow, deep wherever crawfish roam. Find you favorite color and trailer and you will always have one on your deck. PB on jig is also my PB 11 lbs 10 ozs. As said earlier fish it like a t-rig. Your bite could anything from a mushy feeling to a big tap just like most worm bites. Just got to get used to the different feelings. It is one of the best bed fishing tools you can use. As said earlier just fish it.
FISHING NOW NOT WORKING ANYMORE

IMO the easiest one to learn with is the ball head finesse style jig. It fishes more similar to a Texas Rig, but will help you get accustomed to the feel of coming through and over cover. I also believe that style jig draws more bites, which will help you get a feel for how fish like to pick up jigs. From there step up to a little heavier Arkie style flipping jig, there are plenty of subtle things to learn about that style also but the ball head gives you a good basic feel to build on. The football head jig, at least the way I use it, is a total different breed of jig. I dont really hop those much, its more of a drag till you get up a piece of cover then pause and shake it before continuing to drag it almost like a c-rig. In time you will be able to tell the difference in the bottom and whether your working it over/through chunk rock, wood, or pea gravel. This is a good time of year to learn it, good luck and let us know how its working out for ya!
