Headed out to Apffel Park today in search of some family fishing action. The spring Black Drum should be in full swing and the weather forecast looked excellent.

Once anchored up the action was lacking due to minimal tidal flow for the day but as usual we found a way to catch em!

The first catch of the day came on a light tackle bite using peeled Shrimp and best of all this was a double.

Both fish were landed and the action slowed again until Pat hooked up on an aggressive Bull red.

As the day progressed the wind diminished well into the single digits creating glassy conditions. The channel was extremely busy which provided a marine vessel show between the lull periods. Heres Pat taking it easy!

With the improved conditions it was the familys turn. Ainsley hung in there catching Hardheads and Whiting until the big one hit! Her first Black Drum bite of the day was a solid 25+ pounder on light tackle.

Heres the fish landed, she couldnt lift it obviously way to go kid!!!

T160 tandem?

Shortly after my wifes rod started clicking and the fight was on. Her fish was slightly larger and again on the light tackle. Something interesting with the slack / barely moving tide today was most of the fish hit the lighter gear probably because of the soft bite, you could actually feel the small bumps before the line increased tension.

And finally a fish that actually made a blistering run, this time on the Avet SX.

Total for the day (including Pats fish also) were 13 Black Drum and 1 Bull Red. With a stronger tidal flow the action should be fierce! Excellent day on the water!!!

I been stuck working 70-90 hours a week, been in oklahoma a few weeks, ohio a couple weeks, have to close on my house on Wednesday, getting married on Saturday, gotta get moved out at some point, will I ever get out in the bay again? its been about 3 months, and only had 1 freshwater trip in that time

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.
