I have way way way too many. Well, maybe you can't ever have too many but I am looking for a decent way to store flies. I looked at the large Cliff cases and may go that route, but figured I'd see what everyone else did.
Ideally, I'd like something that I can store them in at the house and on the road and then transfer what I want/need in to my smaller cases to fish. I have most in typical Plano plastic boxes but I am tired of digging through to find what I am looking for and untangling hooks, etc. I don't mind making, buying, or a combination of both, I just want a better storage solution that is portable.

I pretty much use the same thing, keep new ties in plano boxes and transfer to small fly boxes as needed. The cliff boxes are nice for big flies for sure. I seem to remember someone using homemade fly boxes, but can't put my finger on it.
Let us hope that the bass do not find the equivalent of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

I have several small boxes. I am looking for a large case of sorts to keep flies organized around the house and something I can also chunk in the truck if I need to.
I thought about converting an old brief case I have and adding foam, but I thought there may be a better option. Most of the flies I make/bought/traded for are size 10 - 1/0 saltwater flies.

Most of the older Falcon Tackle boxes have removable dividers making them big single (or double) compartment boxes, also nice hinges & latches, I put foam in the bottom & they hold a bunch o' flies

Knocked out the dividers and put foam in it, and made slices into the foam with a scalpel.

When tying a bunch, I store them in 3x4 ziplocks from Jann's. For fishing storage, I like Altoids tins lined with foam. After amassing too many Altoids, I found blank tins about the same size at papermart.com

Eureka! These would be the coolest little individual fly shadow boxes.

Eureka! These would be the coolest little individual fly shadow boxes. You could go Shakespeare and put a dozen of them into a shadow box. HAMLET: A dream itself is but a shadow. ROSENCRANTZ: Truly, and I hold ambition of so airy and light a quality that it is but a shadows shadow.
