Fished shallow drop shot for most of the day and after a few hours started having problems with the line twisting pretty bad. Anyone had this problem or know what I can do to help it?

Switch to braid, use a swivel and leader.

It happens to me all the time on my spinning tackle. It is easy to get out but hard to solve. To get the twisted line out, cut your bait off and start trolling out and let the line free spool off the reel. When you get to the end, simply reel it back up and retie. That will let the line unroll all the twists out. As mentioned above a swivel will help prevent it. Also pay close attention to how your bait is rigged, if it is not straight then it will cause the bait to roll and twist your line up.
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

When the line gets too twisted to use, take off everything but bare line, and pay it out behind the boat at idle speed until you get it down all the way to the spool. Run for a short distance on plane, and this will remove the twist. Crank the line back in and go fishin!!!!!

Use braid, it does not tangle and twist as bad as other lines on spinning gear - and I don't worry about a leader and do fine catching fish......If a fish is worried about seeing 10 pound braid which is moss green and about as thin as sewing thread --- then they better buy some clear hooks.

90% of your line twist comes from reeling up your line. simply by reeling up slower will reduce line twist drastically if you must fish fast get you some tiny spro swivels and braid with a 3ft 6lb-8lb flouro swivel.
