All the tall tales on boat speeds...these are all from different threads in the tff

55 mph with a 17 foot Triton with a 90...
60 with a 115 on an 18 foot Triton...
65 with a 150 on an 18 foot Champion...

Do these folks really think we are morons?

Some people just use their speedometer speeds.

There's nothing like getting a boat to run faster than to enlarge the hole in speedo pitot.

Certainly what you are saying is more realistic.

True 78-80mph+ bassboats are pretty common these days on the internet. It's finding one on the lake that is difficult.

I darn sure don't want to be in one. Let the guys that enjoy the go fast boats have em. I like that nice smooth ride myself. The old back does not appreciate that bouncing around any more.

Are you sure that wasn't "on the trailer, behind the truck" speed? I have a lot of customers that get boat and truck speed mixed up. Fact is: One of my customers told me that they use to ski behind a 6hp Suzuki and a 12 foot flatbottom. So I just did the bobble head thing, and agreed. Remember: You can't argue with STUPID, they have had more practice than you have.

I know exactly what you are talking about, on the one with the 115, I told the guy, maybe, if someone with a 250 was dragging it behind....

Aw Man! My little Alumacraft Tunnel hull w/ 50HP Yamaha will top out at 25mph with three people running downstream. Is that fast? LOL!

What I like is when someone posts a boat for sale that is almost the exact same boat you have with less horsepower and yet it's as fast or faster than yours... I know what TFF policy is in their clasified section but sometimes it is hard not to call BS on some of these peoples claims. Oh well, It sure is fun to kick tha $hit outta one out at the lake! thumb

My 150 Merc XR4, with the stock gear ratio, would not "prop" good enough to pull my 18 ft Ranger faster than 55 mph(at its lightest configuration). With a change in gear ratio, I was able to prop it for a decent hole shot, and coax it to 60 mph. BUT when I load it with all my stuff, 55 is all it goes(still with a decent hole shot).
I suspect I could moderately modify the engine and get the speed up to 65 mph.
But you know what, I prefer cruising at 32 mph, and occasionally open it up and get my 'speed rush' at 55 mph. It's safer that way,.....and more economical.
Yet, I won't kid myself. If I had the bucks I would enjoy a new 21 ft Ranger with an engine that would easily take it 70 mph.... thumb

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

I as well think a great deal of people go by speedo speeds and some are not real accurate vs gps #'s.
