Hi All, greenhorn here. I have had my starter fly rod for 3 years now and still don't know how to cast. I bought it when I was laid off from work and figured I pick up fly fishing. Well that lasted about a month from YouTube videos to instructional books/video I still couldn't get the hang of casting. So I gave up. Now laid off again and want to give it another try. Having limited funds I'm looking for free seminars or lessons available. Any input/suggestions are welcomed and thank you!

You have superb timing. If you don't already have plans for next weekend, you need to come down to Athens to the Fly Fish Texas event at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. There will be a bevy of instructors there to teach you to cast, numerous seminars to learn to catch the fish of your choice, and hands on demonstrations galore. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/visit/specialevents/flyfishtx/

Well, if you can only make it to Narnia. Good luck, the locals here will lead you to all the free seminars provided by the local fly fly shops i.e. cabela's etc. Try joining a local FF club, you might even meet some big name folks.

I understand Bass Pro Shop/Garland has free fly casting and fishing lessons on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. weather permitting. All ya have to do is show up, that crazy instructor has rods for you. It's free...just bring a smile and have a couple hours to invest in your future addiction!
He leadeth me beside still waters.

This is good advice, and if there's any way you could get to Athens on the 12th, you could walk away with more for free (well, gotta pay the $6.00 to get in) than you could find and pay for anywhere else. BHR
Plus, IMO, If you aint drinking, you aint mowing.
