I have never purchased a new boat but have two questions.....if the plate says it is rated for xx hp's per the manufacturer, why would you get something over that rating?Doesn't the motors weight and HP drive the transom design? If I remember correctly, it was rated for up to a 150. I think the only 17'-6" boat Stratos makes now is the 176XT. I think it is only rated for a 90HP. Go figure. I have a Charger and it has the 4 inch transom, same as the bigger boats but for my boat it only rates a 130 HP max. I have a 90 and it is way under powered. So if the transom is the same thickness why couldn't it hold a 150 HP???? Proud Father, Sons Served their country RHBC

I've got it to 52 mph with me and my normal load and a small chop. Could maybe get 53-54 with a much lighter load, but mine would never go 60. The new hulls might be lighter though.
