Hello TFF members, I stress fractured my femoral neck in September 2009 at Marine Corps Recruit Training and am still having problems with hip pain while fishing. I am looking for a good doctor. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on a good orthopedic specialist in the North Texas area.

Thank you,

Stephen

You may be better off with a rehab doc instead of surgeon. PM me for more info.

Stephen, look no further than Dr. Paul Detwiler in Tyler. He's the numero uno neurosurgeon in the US. You're very fortunate to have him close by, and he has helped Denny Brauer and Tommy Biffle, so he is familiar with how your ailment relates to your job. Good luck to ya!

p.s.like any good ortho/neuro, cutting is always a last resort. thumb

Texas Sports Med is the best! '09 stress fracture that is still bothering you is not good. You must not have given enough time off to let it heal and it prob won't at this stage. Or you may have some undiagnosed ligament damage in your hip joint as well. You can try pain management, but surgery will get you back to normal much faster.

Be leary of a dr that just wants to throw pain pills at it. I'd advise being open to traveling if necessisary to get the best drs. You need a repair, not a crutch.

+1 I met Denny Brauer one day when he was hanging out at Dr Detwiler's house on Lake Tyler. They were out on his dock and we were fishing in the cove.
