Kyle let me know the day you are going. And if you need a fishing partner. Got a jon boat and place to launch by pops.

Now that I know that, how is the fishing? What would I use and where should I fish?

I typically fish canyon and medina for hybrids and largemouths. I keep hearing about this white bass fever that seems to catch on this time of year. What kinds of lures does a guy have to use to get in on the action? Where are some good spots? Not asking for trade secrets, just tips if possible.

I missed the whites running last year, I don't want to miss the action this year. I've never been to the North part of the lake by the river, can I take kayaks up there? I really want a jon boat at some point, but I only have kayaks right now.

I launched yesterday from Boat ramp #11, and yeah, That ramp was probably the steepest yet I've launched from. My trailer tires didn't even touch the water I was so scared. I literally just pushed my Jon off the trailer and pulled off quickly.
I tried looking for shallow water/rapids but it seemed the entire river averaged 30+ feet deep. I had two choices as the river forked when going left from the ramp. I went to the left fork and almost ended up in Canyon Lake. Beautiful scenery and 1 largmouth bass.
I believe next time I will go to the right and see where that takes me.

Right is upstream. So definitely go right to get to the rapids. They are approx 4 miles upstream.

If you have never been up that river before starting at the mouth of the river and want to play mind games with your own head and your sense of direction, just keep you eye on that big house up on the top of that hill when you enter the river.

It will be in front of you, then you'll be right next to it, then it will be behind you, in front of you, and then to the side, and again a long ways away and then you'll pass right next to it again.

That river is like a snake and if you could draw a straight line or as the crow flies from the launch #11 to the mouth of the river it would only be 2.54 miles and by way of the river channel its a mere 6.11 but watch out for the stumps as they'll pop up in the middle of the 30 ft. channel at times.

As for fishing white bass in medina lake: we typically run up river as far as we can. this all depends on the level of the lake. Sometimes you can run 5 miles up pass pops other times you are lucky to get 1/4 mile past pops. Right now the lake is down a little. We have been fishing with "little georges" for years and have had great luck. They seem to like the 1/4" oz. The best. More to follow after this weekend.

Lures: Roadrunners and 3" Shad Raps are the old standbys. You can pick up a few trolling 2-3 mph, bt will probably do better casting to the bank and retrieving.

No point in trying to get right up to the Rapids. Just go upstream until you see a long gravel bar coming into the channel from your left. There will be rock cliffs to your right, probably with HOA members fishing from them, on the approach to the gravel bar. This bar narrows the deep water to a cut maybe 3-5 feet wide, and you have to navigate this to get to the Rapids. Good way to mess up a prop, and I never caught anything up there. If they're running and active, they will be scattered from the gravel bar to maybe half a mile downstream.

Never tried it, but people fishing on the bottom with minnows seem to do pretty good.

Have traveled that river hundreds of times and I still hit a 2 stumps this week. splat

I would not even attempt it unless you have a stainless prop. Fortunately, I have a couple of em. grin

Are the "rapids" near where Rebecca Creek road actually crosses?

They are approx 2 miles downstream of rebecca creek low water crossing. At least this last August they were.
