We had a great day on the vine. I don't know if it was all the chumming the guys did the day before, or just good timing, but we slayed them out there. Here is a picture of my wife's first carp: Of course, she has to ham it up a bit (Am I lucky or what!!!) Here is Adam and I with a nice buffalo... This was the biggest carp we have caught there yet (caught on the homemade boilies three minutes after it was cast in with a MASSIVE hit)... Donny stopped by to say hello after we caught the first two fish and stayed to help out. After he arrived, things just went crazy. I literally lost count of how many we caught, it was simply unbelievable. We did catch some really small carp - little buggers were bass sized - but we caught some decent carp and buffalo in the mix. I think Donny counted up to 8 fish while he was there. Thanks again for Donny -- he helped us land fish, fixed my reel, even helped out with baiting and casting. Even with his help, there were several times where I didnt have any rods in the water!! Here is a nice pic of all of us with the last buffalo of the day: We finally talked Donny into taking one of the poles when a fish was on - and it was a monster. It nearly spooled the reel, and thats when the reel started almost falling apart. I think it was the distraction of the reel that caused Donny to lose the fish, but the way he was struggling with it -- it must have been a doozy!!! Anyway, I wish y'all could have been there, it literally was exhausting. My wife caught nearly all the fish -- she sets the hook like a maniac and has taught me a thing or two just watching her catch all these fish. As always on a family trip, I was baiting and casting and tying lines, so near the end of the day I was nearly whoozy from the heat. Easy enough to resolve, I just jumped in the water to cool off. It must have been my smell....or maybe because our good luck charm Donny finally dragged himself away, but it finally quieted down. Coincidentally...or maybe not, I ran out of range cubes and I think the carp and buffalo headed for easier pickins' somewhere else. BTW Zach - I finally used those hooks -- thanks a bunch, they worked really well. I also had great luck with Owner number 6 circles with good old corn. Everyone has a favorite I guess, but I swear I do better on those than the Gama-whatever-Katsu ones. Ahh....blanked the last two times we were out there, it was nice to have such a good day. --gF

Btw - Donny asked what recipe I used: Here was the orignal CAG post: http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/forum/in...t=1908&st=0 The actual recipe i used was this - the boilies were not very hard though... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Heres a great corn meal recipe and last year I took it and made boilies out of it with great results. Boil 2c water add 2c yellow corn meal. Reduce heat, keep mixing, and remove any dry patches. While mixing on low heat add 1 tbsp vanilla extract, 1 tbsp peanut oil, 1 tbsp Karos dark corn syrup (molasses, maple syrup, honey can all be used instead but only select one of the 4 or it gets too sticky) 2 tbsp sugar. This should only take a minute or 2 and then it'll harden up. Add more corn meal to harden if necessary then turn off heat and remove to tin foil. Thats the basic. In summer I sprinkle in strawberry jello and they go crazy for it either in boilie form or just as a molded ball on my #6 bait holder. In the boilie form you can really launch 'em out there where as just corn meal you have to be more ginger. Last year I added in some "OBSESSION" and left out the peanut oil. Theres so many variations I couldnt even tell you. I also made a semolina, soya, corn meal base in even amounts and added eggs, scopex, and obsession which worked great. The scopex I use is eiither "mainline" or Pescaviva. If anyone tries this outside of NJ let me know... -------------------- PB Common - 36.8 lbs St Lawrence River 8/26/04 @ 12:42 a.m. Witnesses: Fran S., Jerry B., & Scott J. Geekfish, Those are great photos , glad someone had a productive outing. Several of us forum members fished at Weatherford barge where the carp were really biting last week and we struck out. And carp were there , they were doing the carp flop on a regular basis , other than a few short bites from time to time no fish were hooked. There is always next time. Congrats on your day , looks like you had a great family outing

Aw, man! Great pictures and a beautiful family. Yes, you're a lucky man!
Ain't it great when the fishing planets line up just right and make up for all the crappy days when you couldn't buy a bite? Glad you and the family had a good day.

I'm sure glad I stopped by. That was awesome! Thanks for the great time and for teaching me a thing or two. I'm glad I had a chance to meet your family too. Man, your wife can set a hook and that kid of yours is going to be a great fisherman.

Heh - no, Donny was telling me my boilies were donkey chokers.
I caught the biggest carp on those boilies...and we missed a bunch of hits on those boilies. I was cutting them down some to make them smaller when I finally caught that big (well, relatively big) carp.
Most everything was caught on Owner #6 circles (red) with corn. Chummed with range cubes until I ran out.
The boilies came out as glorified dough balls. I am not sure how to make them hard, but they did last over a half hour without falling apart and I *think* they float. I think its time to commit and figure out some bolt rig setups to use with the hair rigs and just make the boilies a bit smaller.

Zach - a couple of young guys showed up that fish Lewisville more often. They knew you (of course) but I cant remember their names. Young guys - had pods made out of PVC and I swear they were using bass rods with those whacky reels...
