I don't know about everyone else, but I am just now catching on to this drop shot technique. Although I have not been very successful at doing so, everytime I see someone use this technique they seem to be very productive fishing bass. My question is am I not doing something right? Right now im using a 6 foot light action spinning rod,1/0 offset Eagle Claw hooks, and 3/8ths ounce bullet sinker. Again im wondering if it is still my presentation or color..or wtf im doing wrong? Anybody who uses this technique can u pleaseee shine some light on me?

The most important thing about the drop shot is good electronics that you can read well and understand. Usually my go-to rig is a 7' medium action with 8 lb flouro. If the water is super clear I'll drop down to 6 lb. It really just depends on the situation, I've used 20 lb several time at Falcon but usually the lighter the line the more bites you will get. You might want to try lighter weights also. Use the lightest you can get away with (or have the patience for) depending on the wind. 1/8 to 3/16 works 95% of the time for me.

I use drop shot all year long so I fish it very shallow to very deep. When shallow and in stumps or under boat docks I use 20 lb braid with a 10 Lb flouro leader. This is very important because you feel more bites with the braid and leader. Medium with fast tip rod works best for me because I need the back bone of the rod to get the fish out of some bad stuff like stumps... You need a good reel with a good drag system. The drag is very important.

In my opinion the drop shot is very hard to learn and master but when you do it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.. There are many different ways to use a D/S. Right now on fork this will put the fish in the boat and the right size your looking for.

Right on the money. I could fish with you any time.

My guess is you're not putting it in front of fish.

most people I see, use too long of a leader. shorten your leader to about 12".

drop shot is very fun and rewarding... but I found you have to go through 100 fish to catch 1 keeper!

please list some reasons not to fish a drop shot with a bait caster 15# floro, 3/0 hook, fluke/worm with a 3/8th sinker in 25-40ft ledges. thanks

I would use a heaver rod to set the hook. I throw super flukes with this method and catch larger fish. I very the distants from hook above the weight from 3 inches to 18 inches. Cuts out the smaller fish. But on ocassion I will catch a 12 inch bass on the 6 inch fluke.

Good luck and experiment with different set ups to see what the fish is wanting.

I use 20 power pro and a 12lb floro leader works great and i use about a 1/8ths drop shot weight.....i use the baby live magic shad or the yamamoto shad shape worm seems like the yamamoto works alot better

I see your smiley face, dont know if your serious or not.

Might not be on Lake Austin, but it's a proven technique.
Try a lake with deep 50-150' clear water.
