Bevo, I went to Willis Creek Park late on Saturday with my wife and father-in-law. We fished the "day use" area at the end of the park road and to the right. We caught two nice size Crappie, both on jigs. I went again, early on Sunday morning for a couple hours and didn't get a bite. The fish are in there but it's definitely a slow bite.

Jsinn. Were you fishing with the backpack on Willis Sunday? I talked to a few people while I was fishing just curious if that was you

I did have a backpack. You must have been the guy who said you'd thrown about every color jig at them. They just weren't biting for whatever reason. Maybe a little early yet?

Ive pulled some pretty good numbers out of the river in the past week or so. Its all about location. Find a spot where they are feeding and hang on. Ive thrown nothing but 1/32 oz. white jigs. We need more water flow, that would make a big difference.

Pretty sure I have walked over fishytx a few times in the last 2 weeks, but he is right. The fish seem really spotty and holding close to cover, but once you find a spot you can knock out a nice stringer pretty quick.

I am fishing the river tomorrow all day, so if you all could just stay home and wait on my report I would appreciate it laugh haha

See you all on the river.

I was thinking of going out there today. I bet it is crazy crowded. I hope they are all catching. I went last Wednesday. Caught only 8. 3 were nice females.

I'll be watching for the weekend fishing stories.

Shut up and fish!

My history of futility continues on the South San Gabriel. Fished for four hours this evening and caught & released one White Bass and one catfish. I saw a couple nice stringers, but it was slow for most people.

Definitely slow today. Saw a lot of competent fishermen doing it right with only a few fish to show for it. I generally expect it to be crowded, but it still bugs me to see people standing on top of the fish. The spots that have produced so well the past few months all had people basically standing in them, instead of fishing in them.

Water was cold and off color from the recent rain.

I was so bored today. I had some stuff to do later in the day but nothing to do in the morning, so I loaded up and hit the steps. On my forth or fifth cast, big white on. Oh boy, I just knew the bite was going to be on. Forth or fifth more cast, one more fish. Uh-o, now its not looking so hot.

I saw one guy with five on his stringer and he had been there since day brake. No one else had a fish. So I pitched my jig a bunch more, changed color and size of bait several times trying to find what the fish wanted, nothing. The I noticed bait fish were swimming around out in the deeper water, and that right there tells the story. The fish just werent in this area feeding, so I moved. I did re- locate and found a much better bite so to speak, I caught twelve more. Ended the day with a total of fourteen fish in all. Two of them were really small dinks, like four inch dinks.

Talked to one other guy who said he did good. He was throwing a small white rooster tail in the second hole upstream from the steps, and said he caught ten nice fish in two hours, which was very good form what all I saw today.

Look out spring brake anglers, Im sure the steps will probably be elbow to elbow for the next week.
Yall have fun, because Ill be in my boat fishing for LMB during that time.

Heres the first two I caught in the same hole I fished with Jason and his friend Ronnie.

Heres a short video of me releasing these two fish. I have a video of the other fish as well, but I managed to get my camera a little wet today, and that other video will not download at this time. Ill let the camera dry out some more before I try to retrieve this last video. But never the less, they both swam away in good condition.

After moving back to one of my old hot spots, I hooked this one, took its picture, released it, and caught eleven more before calling it the day.

And then I decided to take a snap shot of the steps so I could show my wife why Im so out of breath by the time I reach the top.

Hey, glad to see somebody's catching fish out there. Thanks for the report and pics. And I don't care how good of shape you're in, those steps will make anybody out of breath.

I have only fished the yegua. I was thinking of trying the San Gabriel. Does anyone have any pointers for differences in tackle, presentation, or special rules to be aware of on that waterway? Do you usually go upstream from the circleville parking or downstream? Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend using light tackle. No more than 6lb test line, with 1/16oz spinners or 1/32oz jigs. White seems to work really well. Waders are also a good thing to have. There are some good holes upstream and downstream so take your pick there.
