So - gonna try hair rigs and boilies tomorrow. Made my own boiles...have NO idea if they are too big or not (prob are too big).

Anyway, whats a good homemade boilie stop to use? Was thinking of sliding a small zip tie through the loop and cutting off a small piece. Anyone else have a better approach?

Donnie is using the bead type zip ties. looks like they're perfect. Just saw a bag of 200 boilie stops on ACS for cheap too.

Yeah - I am trying to avoid buying all this stuff, seems like a slippery slope.

We will see how I do today - if y
all are out, please come by the cliffs and say hi, meet the wife and kids. If we cant get our normal spot, we will be at one of the trails, lookfor the silver honda odyssey.

What I am trying:

Homemade boilies on Zach hooks (I finally am using them Zach smile )
Corn on a cirle w/setting the hook
Cut bluegills on a monster circle hook (I want a big cat if they are out there)
*Maybe* corn on a regular hook for those tentative buffalo bites

Trying out a bunch of different types of setups....

When I run out of boilie stops I use a piece of a twig. Sometimes I can find the right size with small knuckles on it similar to thr barbell-looking ones.

Over here in the UK we have noticed that our suppliers of Boilie stops are using the plastic retaining ties found on Fire extinguisher handles (to prevent the extinguishers going off accidently)these are naturally dumb bell shaped and identical to some of those being marketed as boilie stops.
Gentlemen, dont get hung up on boilies, most of the top English and French waters are presently being taken apart by fake plastic maize and sweetcorn fished over beds of corn and hemp.
If you intend fishing boiles then to avoid any nuisance fish try 14mm - 16mm but if there aren't any other fish taking boilies, try 10mm ones.
With boilies good quality is essential to increase catch rates, Mainline, Nash, Carp company and Dynamite baits all have websites you can visit to find base mixes (all you have to do is add eggs as per instructions).
Will post some Photos of some plastic corn caught fish asap. (Plastic corn is marketed by enterprise tackle).

Plastic corn....no kidding. Starting to sound like bass fishing.

Eagerly awaiting your posts -- interesting to see other tactics. We have a spot that a lot of us fish so sometimes switching up tactics might be a good thing.

I use plastic floating corn to great success here also the stuff that glows has worked out well for me, there is alot less presure here on the fish so they are much easyer to catch...I have used mainlines base mix several times you can get it from wackerbaits.com in the usa if you order a 10 kilo tub from the UK shipping kills ya!!! 25 quid or about 50 USD's ouch!! the fake corn is avaiable here through the ACS it cost about $3 and can be had in many diffrant flavors and yep I rob all the zip lines form the fire extigisures at work! smile you can purchase entire packs of them at the home depot for about $4 and have enough to last you from now until the end of time...

carpin cavalier,

Welcome to the Texas Fishing Forum!

Are you the one that was mentioned on an earlier post who was in my old stomping grounds of St. Louis, MO. last week? If so, when are you coming to Texas? (You should wait at least 2 months. Most British people don't like July and August in North Texas. It gets just a 'little' warmer then it does in England. smile )

We have people come from our London office from time to time. They seem to tough it out better than those from our California office. Buncha whiners!!

Carpin - Welcome! If you make it to the area, be sure to try and get some free time to have some of the local carpers take you out and try and get you into some Texas/US carp. It's a whole different game here, just because there is so much less pressure on the fish. Some of us could meet you at Grapevine Lake, where a lot of us catch carp and Smallmouth Buffalo up too and over 20 pounds fairly commonly. Smallmouth Buffalo might be fun, just cause you don't have them in Britain. They get even bigger then carp. ( Over 100 pounds. Look a bit like a wider, grey-blue carp with a big sucker mouth. )

Or you could go to world famous Town Lake for (With any luck ) lots of 20-40+'s!

I was indeed in St Louis last week but unfortunately Porko and I had no time to be able to pleasure the banks of the Missouri.
Starless, I am pleased to make your aquaintance, I would love to be able to join you guys in the near future.
I have in my possession lots of Carp literature (over 250 magazines, Advanced Carp Fishing and Total Carp) if anyone would like these magazines, I can arrange to get them over to the States at little or no extra cost, just need an address.

Wow - Starless has been bedridden a lot lately, and is still recovering, I am sure he would make a great recipient.

I can take care of the shipping if needed, just need info for Paypal...

Starless, you want some reading material?

Oh, and btw, the snips of zip tie worked great, I simply passed a bit through the loop to hold my glorified dough ball, cinched the line down, then snipped off the extra.

Worked like a charm.
