Sorry mods if this isn't in the right place. Just wondering if you can get a John boat registered if it doesn't have a title and how would I go about doing this. Thanks in advance.

I think the key is whether it's ever been registered before. If it has it's nearly impossible to get it registered and titled in your name. You have to get the current registered owner to sign a bunch of paperwork. I've been told that if it's never been registered then you can get it registered. But, I've never tried that so I don't know for sure.

Prepare for a bunch of red tape. It seems the state of Texas is convinced if you own a nontitled boat, you are a boat thief. And they are prepared to persecute you even if they can't prosecute you.

With it being out of state even more red tape. Best to call them, they have all the answers. Good luck

Modify it and call it "homemade!" They will want to inspect it.

Good luck, it is tough. I finally said to heck with it and bought a new jon boat at Academy just so I could get it registered. Like stated above, they think your a crook if you have a used non-titled jon boat. I had a little v-hull that ha dbeen used on a stock pond, bought it for mu pond, then thought I would register it, no way, gave up real quick.

It has been registered before in Oklahoma but never in Texas Actually this may help you. In Oklahoma boats are registed by the DMV not the Department of Wildlife. I beleive in OK they will to a search on the numbers and if it's not been reported stolen they'll let you title and register it. If you can get it titled and registered in OK then you can tranfer it to Texas without much hassle.

Moose let me know how things work out. I have a jon boat with a 2005 Ok sticker on it. I also wonder how hard it would be to get it registered. Please report your findings.
