Don't know if Tilapia are considered "rough" fish, but they look like they should be to me.... I was wondering if anyone knows how they can be caught on a line? When we first saw someone who had caught them, they said you had to bowfish them......which I don't do and probably COULDN'T do, even if I wanted too!! Ha...
The people we saw cleaning them had a big cooler full of them. But, they bowfished them. I want to see about catching them on a line. There are gobs of them in Fairfield Lake, and you can even see them from the shore in the water, but we've never had any strikes. Can you catch them on a line and bait/lure?

Caught a whole mess of them last Xmas in Panama. All on canned corn. Just a couple of kernels on size 4 jig. I think I was using 1/16 oz jigs. About 18" under a bobber.
I think I was catching larger ones deeper but first had to make it past the little ones at the top.
They would hit within seconds of casting.
My dad was catching some with shrimp at the bottom but nowhere near the numbers we had with corn.

Trash Fish, NO. They are good eating fish. Just look in your grocery section where they sell fish and there they are. Even at Wal-Mart.

Alot of real Mexican resturants have hole talapia. There is a little mexican joint by my friends house called Caesers (in Grand Prairie) they have it and it looked pretty good. I got it a few days ago and it had a real good flavor, almost like black bass. I always thought talapia was a saltwater fish?!
