Last week the Crappie started coming into the coves. males were turning dark color. If you hit the right spot you could catch close to a limit. Things were heating up. The front came through and the crappie left. fished deeper water at points and deeper structure where I saw bait fish. Only caught one crappie . What other spots would you check out to try and locate them. The water temp droped from 64 to 60* after the front.

If those crappies already started betting, i am sure that they are NOT going to be far from their nest.

When they back off they can be hard to find. The good news is there probably back by now. The bad news is they will likely move back off again by this weekend if the weather gets colder again.
When our fish back off I normally check the mouths of the coves close to where I was finding fish shallow. Whether its brush, bridges, or just the side of a drop off. I would recommend trying a bit deeper water but those fish havent moved far. You could also try some long line trolling along the first drop off nearby.
Good Luck

What do you mean by "long line" trolling? I'm a newbie and haven't heard that term before. The only type of trolling for crappie that I have read about it spider rigging.

Thanks!

It's when you just troll out the back of your boat while moving forward. Id recommend running your trolling motor and a 1/16 to 1/8 oz jig depending on what depth your targeting. You'll have to play around with your speed and line distance to find the exact depth you want. Good luck

+1 on what Chuck said. Yesterday here on Limestone, the females were in 18" of water in the very backend of the coves. Bloodshot fins and everything. Caught some real slabs. It's going to be interesting to see what happens after the front. My favorite time here is postspawn when the fish quit moving around so much and settle into some medium depth structure. Then you can really stock up on fillets.

They have started coming back in. The water temp was 66* yesterday. Was still tough fishing . The crappy were scarted but manged to get a few This morning went to my favorit spot pulled 8 keepers out in about 10 minutes. Only 1 male out of the 8. It is a good morning spot to start the day.
