Does anyone know of any good spots in Austin to bank fish? I have been going to Sandy Creek Park on Lake Travis, right next to the boat ramp. This is where everyone and their brother tell me is the spot but haven't had much luck. Any locations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

you are gonna find bank fishing in austin hard this time of year....if you looking for bass, travis has numbers but not size. Your best bet to catch fish from the bank right now is to find a flat with about 5-20 ft off it, and get there early or real close to dark and toss some top waters...rebel pop-r's have always been a pretty good producer for me (black back & chrome belly or bone colored). otherwise there are gonna be pretty hard to find. When Cypress Creek is full its usualy pretty good in the fall and spring.
For catfish on travis, just pick a spot with some relativly deep water, and you will find them. catfish are all over the lake, not usualy the biggest in the world, but there are some nice ones in there. Best bait that i have found is Danny Kings Punch Bait, chicken liver, night crawlers, and frozed shrimp (not the boxed kind).
Hope this helps you keep you lines tight, and catch some fish

There are a few ponds that hold bass: Northwest District Park in Austin, Williamson County Park, SE Metro Park near the airport, Meadows Lake and Old Settlers in Round Rock. Head over to the TPWD website and search for "Community fishing" lakes or ponds, or search for "urban fishing" and it'll list out a whole bunch of ponds <75 acres in the greater Austin area. Actually, here it is: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/cfl.phtml?r=6

Anyone had luck banking off Lake LBJ or Lake Georgetown? I live in Austin, but there's just too much commotion on Lake Travis to do anything with. The small run off rivers going into state parks just don't seem to hold much in the way of fish. I've also tried Decker, but there's alot of yelling and swearing from the visitors on the banks. I went on 1 trip to a park on LBJ, but the water had recedded significantly from the banks and the park was surrounded by private property. I did see alot of good coves and such that would yield good fishing, just not sure how to get to the banks there. If anyone knows where I can get bank access to some of the coves I'd appreciate it.

http://www.laketravis.com/main_recreation.htm Travis is a ok lake to fish. How could ya go wrong with the colorado river that was dammed up in 1940.To my knowledge, it's never gone dry but sure could us some rain in it,as all lakes could right now. LBJ gotta have some good places but i've never been.Georgetown, I have fished once without any luck at all.

Onion Creek has some great bass fishing holes. You can park off of I-35, hike down to the water, and start searchin for a spot.

If ya know where any covered docks in deep water are trying doing some drop shot. Its best during cold weather but Ive had lots of luck doing that. Caught an 8lb large mouth at Riviera Marina. Also, late at night in deep water I put just 1 flood light on the water and tons and tons of white, striped, and hybrid come to feed on the minnows the light attracts. You'll slay 'em with live shad. There may be a few largemouth but they tend to come in morning around 6:00. Caught to 5lb hybrids and a bunch of decent striped and white. Good Luck
