Im a college student at tarleton state in stephenville and drove the 100+ miles down to colorado bend this past friday morning to meet my dad who was coming from round rock. I got in the water at about 8 am and had thrown the entire arsenal of roadrunners, rooster tails and small rat l traps before he had hardly got in the water. As usual he had his bucket of minnows and his push botton zebco (the snoopy pole), and before i even got a solid bite, the old man had 12 on his stringer. Needless to say, i got fed up and stole some of his minnows and ended up with 6 keepers while he walked away with a limit. I would advise anyone going down there to stop and grab a few minnows even if thats not your style.

That seems like the trend so far this year until the water temp hits that majic number and the spawn explodes. Ive been a few weekends this last month and I noticed the same thing, that mostly it gets better in the afternoon, where as last year when the spawn was in full force, it was early in the morning for the best action. now that there was another cold front, it might cool off the water and slow down the spawn again, dont really know. But who cares, Im heading down tomorrow for a 3 day camp trip so I'll be out there from morning till dark every day, so hopefully things should start booming.

Any size to the fish this year? They were small last year.

Crappie were fantastic size a few weeks ago when that was all that everyone was cathing. Last week it was more of the whites and I didnt catch any good size even though they were keepers, but nothing good size yet.

Thank you all for the reports coming out of there.

I'm not accusing anybody of anything, but hybrids have been stocked in Buchanan for a while now. I recommend thoroughly checking any large "white bass" as it could actually be a hybrid. Minimum length to harvest a hybrid is 18"

Keep those reports coming!
