Has anyone ever fished the medium sized pond that runs along Josey Road, in Carrolton? It's right at the corner of Josey and Peter's Colony, I believe, looks like there is a park and sidewalk that goes around it. I stopped there on the way home from carp fishing today, took Peters Colony to Chestnut I believe, and parked on the road near the spill way. It looks like a great little pond, thought not very deep.
I'm curious to know if anyone has ever fished there, and if so, what they fished for and caught. Carp, cats, bass, crappie, sandies, anything?
In the five minutes I walked the bank I must have seen at least 7 or 8 carp jump clear of the water. Wow! Looks like the pond is full of them! I'll definitely have to go back and carp fish it sometime, but it would be nice to know if anyone else has ever tried, and if they caught anything of any size! Lonestar, it's not far from your neighborhood, ever given it a try?

I haven't fished there recently because they used to have a lot of turtles but a couple of years ago I watched a guy fishing for carps for some time and pulling out what looked like 20+ carps. It's very shallow at Peters Colony but that's where he was fishing from.

Wow, 20+ huh? Nice! The pond I've been fishing lately is known to have at least three carp in it over 20 pounds, and it's a lot smaller then the one on Peters Colony. Our biggest from there so far is 15. I was pretty surprised to see so many fish jump in such a short amount of time. I've read that carp often do best in shallow warm waters, that would certainly fit. Though it has been my personal experience that deeper, colder waters hold fewer fish, but of larger size. Though a pond teeming with carp up too and over 20 would be wonderful. You say you haven't fished there recently, have you fished there in the past? Ever catch anything besides turtles? I saw several of them too lol. How many fish did the guy catch, a lot? Remember what he was using by any chance? Sounds like a promising spot!

In the time I was there watching, about 45 minutes, he caught two. They were both about the same size. He seemed to be using some cheese mixture, probably what you guys call boilies?
He was using some heavy surf rods and casting pretty far out but I have seen those ponds on dry spells and it's shallow on the north side.
The south side seems to be a lot deeper but it's hard to fish because it has cattails pretty far in.
All the gear I have is ultralight so I can't cast very far.
Last time we tried was about three years ago with my kids and we fished the little cove on the north east side. It seems to have a deeper channel there. Caught a lot of turtles. I think all the people feeding bread to the ducks are keeping the turtles around.
Best bet without kids would probably be to fish from the east side because you can cast to the deeper waters. The bank is a little steep around the edge so I didn't even try to fish there with my kids.

Thanks for the information Ricardo! One good thing about people feeding the ducks is that it would attract more carp as well as turtles. Unfortuanately it can be tough to fish when the turtles keep taking the bait! I'm definitely going to be giving it a try though. I use light and medium gear myself, no heavy surf rods here either, but can cast far enough most of the time. I usually fish with 8 pound test, even for carp, occassionally with 20 on a baitcaster.
As far as the cheesebait goes, it probably wasn't a boilie. A boilie is called a boilie because it's something like a doughbait, that has been boiled and dried, and is very hard. It's actually fished with a hole punched through it, and literally, tied onto the line next to the hook. Very weird, but from what I've seen, very effective though I've had little experience with them myself. Most of the carp I catch come on either nightcrawlers, sweetcorn, or doughbaits made from wheaties or oatmeal.
If those carp were 20 pounds I bet they put up quite a fight even on that heavy gear! That'd be a lot of fun just to watch, let alone catch!
Thanks again, I'll let you know if I do any good when I head out there.

Thanks for the picture Oscar! Where did you get that? The area I checked out was right along the shoreline near the spillway. That's the bottom right of the picture, you can see the white concrete on each side. There was barely any water flowing over it, in fact there is a sidewalk that crosses the top of the spillway that only had maybe, half inch of water flowing over it. But the little channal there looked nice, might be a bit deeper if there's a creek bed there. I was only there five minutes or so, and saw quite a few carp jump, so it certainly looks to have a lot of them at least. The little cove up at the top right looks nice too.
Didn't get any huh Zack? That's too bad, when did you fish it? See any jump? I'll let you know if I catch any when and if I fish it!

Go to www.dfwmaps.com it is a great site that has Aerial Photos. I use this site all the time to find ponds or to follow creeks to find easy ways to access them.
