That sucks, I just don't understand how one of the best camping facilities, not to mention, one of of the better fisheries can just be disreguarded by OUR parks and wildlife officials. I understand that they cannot control the lake level, but I grew up there, and have seen droughts on and off through out the years, something is up and who do you talk to to get the truth. Having SO many memories there, are we just supposed to forget about them and say GOODBYE? I guess if the state can cut teachers across the board, they can just do pretty much whatever the ____ they want to do. Who voted for these people?

I listened to Brian Hughes last saturday and he has the fisheries biologist on the controls Fairfield. As of now they are planning on extending the ramps which should be completed in the next couple of months. They are also restocking the lake with fish. They do realize that there was a fish kill and as far as I can tell they are trying to restore the fishery, and also improve the facilities at the same time.

whats crazy is the fish kill was caused by consecutive days of cloud cover.... not lake level. Due to the nature of it being a power plant lake it basically chokes all the oxygen out of the water. the 500 is a good start but we need more, I love that little lake its been great to me.
from the official report "Water quality field data collected in late afternoon indicated a localized area of high oxygen and abundant phytoplankton in the larger of the two areas where the fish kill occurred. High daily fluctuation in oxygen level is consistent with abundant phytoplankton. Photosynthesis during daylight increases oxygen concentration; respiration by the phytoplankton during periods of darkness (or heavy cloud cover) rapidly reduces oxygen concentration."
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan

THey are trying and I will give them a big thank you . The ramps are in bad shape and needed to be extended. With them putting in the 500 bass that should help on the spawn some. With not as many predators it should really help to jump start the bass population. I am hoping they are going to put in some older redfish. I am hoping that the lake will be back to greatness soon.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

They should restock it and then close it for two years to let it recover. Then it would be like Squaw Creek

Just make it catch and release for everything except tilapia

I second that Ran_d.....It's just a fun time for family and friends to catch a few reds or big bluegill and go to the campsite and chill out.
