Hello,
I just "found" this lake in Dallas over the weekend. Talked to a few locals there (joggers, bikers) and it almost seems to be too good to be true. Lot's of catfish being caught, white bass, good rough fish, etc.
My question is, could someone point out "exact" instructions where to bank fish from? I'm from FT.Worth and I don't know too much about the street names and locations on this lake. I'd like some good spots to set up plenty of equipment for a long term fishing session.
I'll be targeting catfish and some of the rough fish species in this lake. Carp, Buffalo and Gar. I've heard a few of these beasts grow big there? Any tips from you local guys would be most appreciated.
I don't know the name of the street, but it crosses a wonderfull bridge with a gorgeous spill way, blocked off with fences all around. Spotted some big gar and other rough fish surfacing. Anyway to fish down there?
This seems like a beautifull lake, the surroundings are nice, the park well kept. If the fishing is as good as it looks, this is truly a gem!
Thanks for any tips you can provide.

according to the locals this is a primo lake. Do a search under bank fishing for whiterock and you should find some stuff. I bet Rudy will see this post and give you some good info. He has given me some good info but I have yet to use it yet. Let us know how you do cuz I have been wanting to try this lake out and I am getting more interested now with all the posts I have been seeing on it.

dmunsie, check out this web site. It has some of the best information about WRL I have ever seen on the web: http://www.whiterock.info/rec/fishing.htm It's broken down into sections covering different species, with a dedicated page for each. On the bass page, he lists 4-5 specific spots to bank fish from. It can sometimes be easy to be distracted by the eye candy... Good luck, James

Thank you for the web site and info. I will be setting up a site there from the bank for a long session sometime this week. I will post a report how I did.

That "White Rock Lake Fishing" site is one of, if not the, best info sites that I've ever seen online! It takes all the guesswork out of the WRL fishing experience. And also to be primarily focused on bank fishing! I thought that I had died and gone to fishing Heaven!! Great find James!

jrp -
Yes, I have been salivating ever since I ran across it, now I just have to find the time to go down there and spend a little time at the places mentioned. Also, I'm sure they're not the only good places on the lake to fish, but they are a great starting point!!

Duck, it does appear that their server has taken a beating ( I guess from us all going over there at once ?? ) It should clear up this evening. You can try the main site at www.whiterock.info and see if that one works. Just tried it, and nope it's not working either... James [This message has been edited by jimin8r (edited 07-29-2002).]

Hey dmunsie,
This is the perfect lake for the type of fish you want to persue. There are lots of good catfish, huge gar, carp ang drum. I have caught or snagged them all while bass fishing. The bridge you are talking about is Garland Rd/ East grand from I-30. You can fish under the brige if you park in the beer store parking lot. If you want to fish the lake take the first left after the spillway coming from the spillway. Anywhere around the first or second point is good. The catfish have been biting nightcrawlers on a bobber w/ a six foot lead about 10 ft off the bank. I guess the are spawning now. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

That link left off the fine sandbass fishing at WR. He also tends to concentrate on the crappie fishing in the lake and does not mention the superb winter crappie fishing up white rock creek and dixon creek. Other than that, that link rocks!

I've fished whiterock for years. I still remember getting on my 10 speed and riding it from mesquite to white rock to fish. I have caught plenty of fish at whiterock, from Black Bass down to the yellow belly. when the water is running strong the bridge on mockingbird produces some nice cats. and fishing the lakeside of the spillway where the water runs over caught everything from bass to crappie/carp/cats/and sandies. Still a great lake which does not get a whole heck of alot of pressure the biggest bass out of there from me to date is 6.5lbs on a spinner bait.

Hey Bass_Angler,
There are several bass bigger than the 6.5 you stated in Whiterock taken just this year. The cash fish tourney was taken with a 7.5 caught by trolling a rooster tail. I have caught 2 over 6.6 and lost a 7+. My buddy caught an 8. All the bass were caught in the last few months. It's not the little secret it used to be. It can be tough fishing sometimes though.
