So I think I'm going to camp at Benbrook Friday night and do some bank fishing for cats at night. I know the way I fish for cats, but I've never caught a huge one. So I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers? Bait, setup, hooks, etc. Was thinking about chumming also, that way there's action throughout the night. And how do I keep the tiny ones off my hook? Thanks all!

thats my neck of the woods, i have fished from bank and boat. from the bank i like the benbrook marina, its off hwy 377 (across the white stone golf course). I also liked pump station, on the north east part of lake, by the dam. seen a couple 20lbs caught, but there is alot of rocks in the water so be prepared to get snagged every now and then. Here is a map of benbrook, should really help you out: http://www.net4u.com/net4umap.asp?lid=72260&bhcp=1

You may want to change your plans a little and fish another lake.Benbrook is real slow in a boat and even worse from the bank this time of the year.Lake Grapevine is picking up from the bank and your chances of scoring a nice Blue Cat is about 100% better.Use fresh shad and perch on a 5/0-8/0 circle hook.Be sure to use the heads!!!Do not chum if you do not want small fish to invade your spot.Hope this helps and good luck. You can PM me for more info.

I'll be at Rocky Creek Park camping. That's why I was thinking about chumming, to bring the fish to me.

go to the other side (West side)and camp at Holiday Park......better park for camping and probally fishing too......or Bear Creek Park on South side.......gotta chance for cats and crappie at Bear Creek possibly......it's a hard lake to bank fish...plenty of access but no fish to catch.....

You won't chum in big ones typically. If you're wanting to keep the little ones at bay fish big baits. Fresh shad is best if you can get it.

might be a little early-but we have some freinds who caught some nice cats at bear creek last year. They threw some jugs out and ended up with a 20 plus pounder. and several other box fish. I think it was month of May. Ben brook is typically slow unless you know the lake very well and can target the patterns correctly. April/May and early June are best bets for the camp areas.

I'll have to check bear creek out. I liked the look of rocky creek's camp sites. And I was able to put my boat in there. If Bear Creek would be better catfishing though and I can still go out during the day and get some crappie, then I'll try that.

Talk to Kevin at Rednecks Bait and Tackle. Its on the left just before the gate to Rocky Creek Park. They are good people and he is cleaning catfish almost every time I stop in.
