I live right by the lake and have thought about tubing it but have never tried it. Has anyone ever tubed there and if so had any luck?

Never tubed it, but I've heard of lots of people that swear by that lake. For being in the middle of Dallas, it's got a great population of fish. With the horsepower restrictions on the lake, it should be great for tubing. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/infish/lakes/whiterck/lake_id.htm Kelly

Whopa,
I haved tubed it many times. This lake is an awesome lake, but at times it can be really tough. I have caught most of my bigger fish from the bank, but I have fished it a lot more from the bank.

Been fishing White Rock for most of 57 years. In my humble opinion, has the greatest Channels in the State, not to mention the 3 Blue and Flat 90 plus records that have been recorded since 1951. Forget fishing there on weekends for the sailboats, kayakers and runs. Tube from the small island under Mockingbird bridge about 100 yards S. of the island. That is the creek channel. Use yer cast net off any pier for shad and you won't be sorry. Liver and shad gizzard work well also. The Channel run from 3 to 11 lb. Blues up to---98lb. Grass Carp up to 54 lb. Used to be a 10 horse outboard limit there, but I frequently use my 60 Johnson there with no regrets. Dave

Thanks everyone for the replies. I gave it a go last night. I put in on east Lawther about a 1/4 mile from Garland road. I was using a drop shot rig along the bank. I did get a lot of bites that I assume were bream and a lot of stares from the people along the trail. I didn't catch any fish though. The water was real shallow and muddy. There is a cove futher up the lake that I am going to try and also the bank along Garland road as well. I saw a post on the bank fishing that said they were catching good bass along the shore I was fishing so you never know. The most fun was watching all the people doing double takes at me, I thought a few of them would crash their bikes.

I fish Whiterock Lake fairly often mainly on weekday afternoons and evenings. Weekends are too crowded plus that's the time that I travel outside the city to fish. I've never tubed the lake. Instead I usually do what I call "shoot and scoot." I load a back pack with tackle, power bars, and something to drink. I bring at least three combos configured to throw weightless plastics, spinners, and jigs, respectively. I've caught bass in the creek above Northwest Highway. The grassy banks along W. Lawther hold bass. Also, the branch over by the new bridge is good. Also, try Dixon Branch.
