hey guys! how's everyone doing in TX? I've been stopping by here from time to time, and it's great to see so many new people on the forum, and lots of newbies interested in carping.

I haven't done much carping lately, but I guess I'm kinda enjoying surf fishing right now... it's a therapeutic session for me after a long, busy week! love being on the sand and hearing the waves, and catchin some fish here and there (all catch/release)... I just got back from a quick surf fishing session this morning.

just thought I'd share some pics/vids I've taken over the past few weeks... can't beat a sunny day out in the surf!

Air temp a little cold, but almost no wind, and very little salad... made some crabs, then off to Point Dume (got there around 8:45am). High tide was earlier, so wasn't expecting much on the outgoing tide either...

arrival conditions: little wind, clear skies, almost no salad, a little murky close in but clearer further out, and small waves:

video of Point Dume this am: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF3A_vBoIAY

I dig and put on a sandcrab:

, and about 5 minutes later, get hit pretty good and land this decent bsp:

taped to a little over 10":

some time and dink bites later... get pulled really hard a few times by this nice one:

short vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HnTwnbkqro

taped to 12 1/2":

quick vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRBGexoKV9E

caught a few more dink sized perch and walleye... and by this time, tide had receded pretty far with only a couple deep areas left that I couldn't get a bite on... switched to crack for a few more casts and nothing... so left at noon!

wasn't a bad morning considering I was expecting the worst! was just great to be out!

here's a view of some of the snow on the mountains from my neighborhood as I got home:

AC caught this nice one a little while back:
here's a vid of her catching a nice sized perch (a perch over 12" is usually a nice sized perch):

here's a shovelnose I caught and a perch she caught:

here's a nice perch my friend caught:

here's a baby leopard shark we caught:

and the release!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BfXhcvtL1M

a bigger leopard shark my dad caught:

quick vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM66P-B37Ls

here's a great video of my friend Sherman who just hooked up with likely a very large leopard shark! you can see how much line this shark is taking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42mwU7Wi0OY

too bad the line snapped before we could land it and measure it!

here's what we call a walleye perch (my what big eyes you have!)

yeah, these little guys are nothing like the tanks of Emma Long, but for now, I kinda like being out there~

As always, I hope to be carping again (I have a Nash pocket pod order pending at BCT!)...

take care everyone!

Awesome stuff, those are really cool looking fish.

I love the video of the unknown fish stripping drag like crazy. You guys are using really light gear for the surf! Or at least it looks that way to me.

yeah this is light tackle surf fishing! makes even the small perch fight pretty good in the waves! We use 8 or 10# braid with a 6 or 8# fluorocarbon leader on a size 1000 or 2500 reels on a fast action 8'6" medium light rod!

here's a nice 21" corbina that put up a heavy fight and took some time land on light tackle. This thing is like a torpedo in the surf! major drag-pulling runs... though not like a 30# Emma long carp of course!:

Sounds awesome! I'd enjoy that kind of surf fishing for sure, maybe even more then having to cast it waaay out there.

yeah most of the time in surf fishing.. you don't need to cast 100 yards out on a 3.50 TC rod! hehehe...

most of the fish are within 10-50 yards I say... I also like surf fishing cause I don't have to carry all that carp gear.. it's easy in-easy out from the car with just one rod and you're constantly walking up/down the beach and keeping the tension on your line as the waves bring your line in... so you're always doing something! Now don't get me wrong.. I also like just chilling on the bank at WRL or Emma waiting for that heart-pounding run! haha

Thanks for sharing those pics!

I lived in socal for 8 yrs and surf fished from oceanside to Santa Monica/Malibu area.

Caught everything from halibut to sharks and everything in between. Cut squid was a great bait for me.

lots of fun and you never know what the next fish will be.

Good luck and keep giving updates.

Hey thx everyone for your nice comments! Glad some of you enjoyed the videos. I like stopping by here and looking at the great reports from Emma/LBL and all the great lakes in TX... Wonderful to see so many newbies into it as well.

I hope to post a SoCal carp report sometime soon...

Take care everyone.
