It looke like they would get in the way sometimes but if the power pole is able to be stopped before it reaches the bottom of the lake then it would be a better option for me.

I have 2 Talon's installed on my Triton TR-186. My general recommendation is having the Talons mounted higher, then adjusting your height with the Talon pole. Since my TR-186's stern is narrow and sits low in the water, I use Power-Poles PK-M-8-6 adapters to get the 6" mount rise. Jack-plate mount might be better for the height. Mine is a motor/transom mount. Minn Kota is coming out with adapters with rise.

Low bridges and garage clearance is not a concern in my use, and I like fact the Talon deploys straight down and not extending out from stern of the boat.

Full 8'4" deployment of Talon is 4-5secs. My experience is if the Talon can "stick" then they will hold. By "stick" I mean not on solid concrete or rock. My Talons can't hold my bow by themselves if anchoring head-first into a 15mph wind as the torque becomes to much as the front swings. But no problems if deploying 1 Talon or stern-first into the wind.

My Talons will shake, but the shake is the adapter. My shaking is not enough to concern me. The 5" setback adapter might have been better on the TR-186 being closer to my transom/sponsons and might have less shake.

The old Talon nuts/lock-washers did vibrate loose. I always checked the 30 ft/lbs torque before starting out. After running the east side of Fork up and down, and after the day 1 or 2 nuts would loosen to about 20 ft/lbs. Never close to falling off. I now have the new Talon NYLOCK nuts, different lock-washers and mount-bar from Minn Kota which should help with on vibration causing loosening. Minn Kota support is top-notch.

Never owned Power-poles. Talons work. Power-poles work.

I LIKE my Talons.

JUST wish they were 12'. :-)

You think like me. (Good idea you got!)

My TM cable broke yesterday. I caught a decent limit with my Redneck Power Pole yesterday.

i have a power pole and love it, i am not sponsored by them, but have been curious like the rest of us, at a recent tourny (Everstart) i talked to several guys about their talons, and opinions were all over the place, i did see a boat or two come in with one less talon, or with it laying on the deck.. the guys i spoke with that had two mentioned that they did not keep the boat from turning in the wind very well, they seemed to think they were too close together. the two guys i talked to who had had power poles before said they would not buy the talons again, are they were both considering spending the money to switch back to power poles... again, i dont own a talon, i have a PP and did have the hydrolic line break.. PP sent me a new one.. no other issues .. i am thinking about a new boat next year and have been curious about the talons like rest of you.. so far it looks like i will be sticking with the PP..

Good info about to buy new boat with one of the brands on it. Looks like I may go with powerpole but I like the Talon idea better.

Just a question...

Some pics I see of the power pole look like they're bent. The pics I've seen show dual power poles one of them looks up-right and straight and the other looks a little bent. Do they bend??? Im' looking at getting one, but dont know nothin about them.

This is a good post with good info!

Ok so whats the difference in the Power-Pole Sportsman Series and the The Power-Pole Pro Series, besides $500 difference in cost...

the bent ones are pwobably a bent bracket.. a buddy of mine has two and bent one of his brackets getting it hung on a boat dock.. he took it off and straightened the bracket, but it is still not quite 100% straight.. so it still looks a little funny.. but it works..

i believe the difference between the pro series and the sportsman is the hydraulic pump.. the pro has a more powerful pump..

I stuck with Minn Kota since they took care of me with my problems. Power Pole does the same with their customers. Both units have their ups and downs. (No pun intended!)
They both work well, and give a buyer 2 different looks. Minn Kota's major con was the bracket/bolt system which they have now fixed. Had nothing to do with the unit itself.
But think about everything else on your boat. Trolling motor, motor, graphs, etc. They all have their ups and downs and sometimes things happen and they need to be repaired.

Hawkeye- my best advice to you is really look at both, and decide which one YOU like better. Both will do what they are designed to do.

Hope this helps.

I caught one of my PPs in the basketball net while backing it into the driveway. Bent the 1/4 inch adapter plate pretty good but did no damage to the PP. Those suckers are tough. If it had been mounted directly to the transom, I bet it would have tore it off the boat. Have had no problems with PPs in three years on two different boats. I highly recommend them.

I'm only bringing this up because no one has. At Choke Canyon I was fishing in 30 mph winds up shallow having to go through the the trees along the bank. I would get caught up in the tree branches with my power poles (out of the water), and get stuck. Of course you lower them down and get unstuck and move on about your way. Not any other guy was around me because if you did not have them you couldn't fish the area. My concern for the talon was what would you do if those got hung up. I'm sure you could find a way to back up but that would require me to stop fishing grab the tree push your boat in white caps in a 30 mph wind, seemed like an issue. My power poles just took about 5 seconds lowered them down cleared the limbs, just a thought for some guys. This might not be an issue for lots as many people wouldn't run into that situation but you never know.

I have a Talon on my ZX225. Love it> it cost about $400 less installed than a power pole was.I have had no problem with it holding the boat. Havent tried in anything more than 15mph steady winds. The bolts have loosened over time but I have checked them after every trip and they loosen a quarter to half turn.

I have a powerpole and luv it. My only complaint is that after two days of sitting, it leaks down. Can't find any leaks and have already sent pump back to get reworked. Still does it. Very frustrating!
