Anyone tried the ponds in the mckinney area? I have tried almost all the ponds here in Stonebridge ranch, with not much luck. I have met other fisherman who had stories of people catching 10 LBS bass from the banks of several of the ponds. Allways thought that they were crazy. How are they catching 10's when I can't catch more than one or two in several hours( and they are small). Well im here to tell you first hand they were right. Sunday I had tried 3 or 4 ponds and caught nothing at all. Then as we were driving home my freind pointed out a small 2 acre pond and metioned he caught good numbers there but nothing of any size. The 3 of us decided to stop and throw a line out for a few minutes and then we would be off for a round of Golf. Lets just say the golf never happened. We started at around 2:30 and fished untill around 4:30. We caught over 100 Bass, we caught lots of small ones but we probably caught 10 to 20 3 lbs or better and my Girlfriend caught a 7 Pounder. I had my line snappen twice, and I have been fishing all my life and I use the best equipment!! Went back later that night but only caught 15 and left because of all the bugs. I will post a pic of the 7 pounder when my friend emails me the pic.

The Pond is on Lake forrest. Dont know the cross streets but I will go take a look this evening. The Ponds in Stonbridge ranch are Private and only for fishing by residents, but this isnt posted on any of the ponds and I have never been asked if I was a resident( even though I am). Infact I have been only asked to leave one pond because the owners didnt want anyone fishing it until the construction in the area was complete. The security gaurd was really cool about it and actually talked with us about all the ponds and what ponds produced good size fish.

<----Fished those tanks before there were houses in Stonebridge. I fished them until I moved to Arlington. I never had a problem with anyone when I fished. Those tanks are by far the best bass fishing around I think. I wish I had half a penny for every fish over 5lbs I caught from there. The biggest fish I caught from there was just a tad over 11lbs. Caught her on a bubblegum slug-o when they were popular. That particular fish came from the biggest tank. Im talking about the one off of Virginia pkwy. Just park at the tennis courts by the country club and hike up the dam wall. Ive been broken off in there sooooo many times. If you drive around to the other side ,and I cant think of the name of the street, there is a concrete culvert you can stand on. I remember catching exactly 11 bass all over 5lbs on a storm wiggle wart. I think I only made 20-25 cast's. I also took my cousin out there ,he was 9 at the time, and he proceeded to catch sandbass on every cast off that culvert. I couldnt believe it. I have no idea how they got in there. Theres also a tank that backs up to the golf course. Its the one with the play ground and baseball field. Do not, I repeat, do not ever throw a redbug trick worm in any part of that tank. Careflight couldnt even help you. Im from McKinney originally but live in Arlington now. If anyone would like to get together before BassChamps and Media just give me a yell. I know some real hot spots for sure. If for some reason someone should harass us then I will just tell them who my grandmother works for in Stonebridge and there will be no more questions. Its the perfect time right now to catch double digit fish. Oh yeah, and for you channel cat enthusiasts, the pond right across the street from the park, the smaller one with the rusted bridge crossing over it, has monster cats in it. I have caught a few on crankbaits by accident well over 10lbs. I also caught them on shrimp dipped in Bill's. I saw a man catch one that he said would easily be 45lbs or so. It was huge and he put him back. That was 10 years ago! Those tanks are a fishermans dream. Just dont leave trash and try to fish 2-3 people at a time and you wont have any problems I wouldnt think. Oh, and Lord help you if you fish them during the spawn. Cough, cough, white lizard, cough, cough. Hope you guys have as much fun as I did for the almost 20 years of fishing those tanks. Sorry for the long post.

Sounds like an awesome spot, I'm not real familiar with the area though so I might have some trouble finding it. I'd definitely be very interested in fishing them, especially the larger pond with the bass and white bass, and the smaller pond with the giant catfish. Some nice large minnows might do great there as well under a slip bobber, and I'd be more then happy to catch and release the bass. I'd also love to "check" those ponds for carp, if they are largmouth and channels that big in them, they may have huge carp too! And no pressure, that'd be a blast, catching huge bass, cats, and carp all day.

You know something. I bass fish mostly and totally did not think about the carp situation in these tanks. I have foul hooked a few on accident and never turned them. I have also seen them in ultra shallow water during the spring. I swear some of them had to be as long as me. Im 5/7. These things are HUGE and they are in every single tank in Stonebridge. You will mostly see them out in the center of the ponds just swimming around with their tales half way out of the water. Im serious about these things being huge. Starless Dragon would go nuts over these things. These ponds get about as much pressure as Fork does. Well when I fished them alot they did. The only tank I didnt see these carp in is the smallest one by the country club up on the hill. Its the tank right across from the biggest tank. You turn left off of Virginia by those newer apartments. I wish I culd remember the street names for you guys. I just might have to make a trip out there on saturday after the game. I cut my teeth on bass fishing in those tanks. My step dad started taking me out there when I was 12 or 13. Wasnt a house in sight. Just farm land as far as you could see. I remember fishing with a Zebco 33 throwing rooster tails,H/H spinnerbaits, and purple/fire tail worms. Those were the good ol' days for sure. But I have since graduated to Falcon rods, Curado reels, and Senko's.

hey wishiniwashfishin, dude, we sound like we came up the same way fishing, the roostertails, zebco's, H/H, used to be the @$#@$# dude! I once put 2 of the fire tail worms on the H/H hooks as a trailer, looked cool at the time, only thing I caught was a 2 foot gar, what a fight though. I too have graduated to much more expensive takle, but love the sport too much to quit. I hope to one day hit those tanks up in McKinney, I have a buddy that lives up there who would love the chance to do some real fishin so close to his home.

Tim, you mentioned your son wanting to get into a really big fish, maybe if you get a chance you should take him up to those Tanks we've been discussing. Sounds like there are some huge bass and cats in there, and with the way Wish described it, I bet there are some monster 20-30 pound carp in there, perhaps some much bigger even. And I bet they get no pressure at all. I'd love to get into a few of those! Defintely seems like a good place to take someone wanting to fight a bigger fish. Just make sure he knows how to properly play out a large powerful fish first, or you'll end up with broken line and frustrations! I'd be happy to try and help get into one if I could, though I certainly dont' garuntee success. Maybe get Zack "Master Carper" up there to help you out! (LoneStarCarper)
