Hey Guys I am new to the board well I have been reading for awhile but this is my first post. I work with MrFish and I also live right across the street from city hall in Farmers Branch. I was fishing behind city hall last night and had one of those big carps steal a rod and reel. I was down there with my gf and she got bored and was going to walk back up the car so I set my pole down and was putting a lure on the pole she was using when my pole got jerked in it happened so fast that I had no chance at grabbing it. So be warned while fishing these creeks don't leave your pole on the ground it will disappear on you smile Glad it wasn't my good rod and reel. It was my son's zebco 33 Hawg he is going to kill me when he finds out.
So if any of you happen to reel it in please let me know hehehe

Oscar - Sorry about the lost rod! I've had that sort of thing happen to me as well, but so far I've always been able to wade/jump into the water and grab it, hopefully manage to set the hook on the big fish too. Most of the time it happens when I'm not actuall fishing for carp, and just get one incidentally. Because of that, anytime I'm actually fishing for carp, I will always leave my bail open. That way as soon as a carp grabs the bait and runs he'll just pull line off the spool, and won't yank my rod in the water. Really, I do that any time fishing on the bottom if I'm going to be setting the rod down.

Behind City Hall? Is that in the same area we've been at, Zack? Sounds good to me!

Also I've been to that spillway a few times, but haven't yet fished it. Fished above it, caught a tiny flathead and a tiny blue lol. Is it legal to fish both sides under the spill way? Well, according to the signs by the bait shop you mentioned, it's very illegal. At least to fish off the concrete right under the spill way. Have you ever had any trouble there? It looks like it would be a great spot for cats, and also white/hybrids/stripers I'd imagine. Anything else good there?

How's the carp fishing there? Need a flathead partner this winter? Never caught a monster flat yet.

Big catter - I THINK you can eat the fish there, depending on what they are and how big. I konw that the elm fork is considered one of the cleanest and most populous parts of the Trinity, but I don't know the specifics. I'd sooner eat the fish from there then any other branch of the Trinity in the DFW area at least. Also, just above the spillway my gf caught a huge crappie on a nightcrawler, but we let it go.

Oscar, I am talking about parking at the park, the oppisite side of the bait shop, across sandy lake road by the lil boat ramp there. I am going down there this afternoon to see how the river flow is with the rain we had last night.

Well I'm planning to head back to the Farmers Branch ponds again tomorrow morning. Probably be fishing behind the library once more, maybe some other spots too. Hopefully I'll be able to get into some carp again! My gf can't make this one, so I'll be fishing alone. I do plan to bring a camera, so if I get any carp I'll try and get a picture of the fish laying across the net for scale, with a tape measure next to them if possible. Wish me luck!
