Has anyone had any problems with the power head on the Yamaha 225 HPDI? A friend wants to know. He is looking to buy a boat with this motor and the guy told him that the power head had been replaced three times. The latest one has 100 hrs on it and runs fine. Seems it is the f2 series. These motors are 2005-2007 year models. Any information would be appreciated.

i haven't heard good things about them from what i have recently read. something about the many filters that need to constantly be changed. im not familiar with it, i have the VMAX OX66. maybe one of the mechanics can chime in

all depends on how you take care of it. these are high perfomance motors, not car engines that you can skip an oil change/filter change every so often.
i would definately be trying to see the maintenance schedule on the new powerhead, and see if the fuel lines/filters have been changed.. then stand back and look at the boat to get an overall idea of how it was taken care of...

I have an 06 250 and it has been a great motor. $175/yr for filters but runs great. Not hard to change them yourself.

must have caused unseen damage and he's looking for a 250 opti now as yamaha said no help... Good Luck with the OptiPOP. All motor manufacturers have failures for various reasons. Doesn't matter if they are Blue, Black, or Grey. All you can do is preventative maintance, and run the hell out of it, becuase they don't like to idle.

This is why 4 strokes are more appealing to me every day, oil gets where it needs to go as long as you change it and keep it full.

Sounds like you need to have an engine warmer on the 4 stroke Yamys. 3 cratered a startup on the ramp at Rayburn.
