Has anyone heard of any problems with the 4 stroke motor? Buying a new boat this year and just may go with the 4 stroke.

We have worked on several. There is no mechanical problems that we has occured, but there is a lot of human problems. One of which is a high occurance. If you winterize the engine, Make sure you drain the VST tank. That is the tank that is doing a vapor recovery and has the electric fuel pump in it. The fuel pump varnishes easily and locks up. Here you come and turn the key on. POOF! $500 electric pump burns up. Other than that, It's noramal maintenance. And don't run the engine using the motor flusher that comes on the engine. It is not made to run the engine but instead, FLUSH the engine. It as with all built in flushers, Run water backwards thru the engine and flushes out salt and debry thru the water pump or exhaust.

I switched over to a 4 stroke about 3 years ago (Yamaha F115) and have had zero problems. I would never go back to a 2 stroke.

Your satisfaction will depend on what you're rigging it on. Some boats run fine with them, some not so fine.

Hopefully it will be rigged on a 20 or 21I class Skeeter. Really not into the whole speed thing any more, reliability is what I am looking for.
