Howdy.
I'm planning to go to Grapevine Friday morning to do some bank fishing. I'm open to bass or crappie or sandies and I've never had much luck on that lake with anything but sandies (and that was from a boat).
Any advice/tips on where to go or what lures to use would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't go much in the morning but I've seen bass hitting the surface before and during daybreak near the shore the few times I have gone. If you are going to be there early enough, bring a top water.
If you have a fly pole and enjoy perch jerkin', a small yellow nymph or an olive wolly bugger about size 10 has been working great for me. You will also catch an occasional bass with that.
I mostly go to the Murrell park/Twin coves area. But I hear that Meadowmere park has been good with spinners (rooster tails) around the boat dock in the morning.

Thanks. I was planning to go to Murrell or Twin Coves simply because those are the areas I'm most familiar with. I'll let y'all know if I do any good.

Or for something completely different, purchase a .50 can of sweet corn (not cream!!) and throw a few handfulls out, place about 3-6 kernals on a small strong hook and enjoy some excellent Carp/Buffalo fishing! (Catfish @ Grapevine love the corn kernals too.) You can thank me later when you catch a biggen. LOL..

I'm with Dmunsie, go for the big fish! Get yourself a real fight too hehe.
If you want bass, I've had some good success catching lots of "eating size" largemouth in the Murrel Park area at and just after dawn. I've caught the vast majority of of them on minnows, fished both under slipbobbers, and worked along the bottom. Most of the bass came with a good south wind whipping up some waves against the shore. Draws in the fish, but makes for tough fishing. Lost a lot more then a caught, but still got a lot of bass. No sandies though so far. A few nice cats as well, and a few slab bluegill, good eating. Also caught them on minnows, pretty big aggressive sunfish!
I'd fish something for bass or whatever, and leave a line or two out for carp/buffalo following DM's advice. One big fish will make your day and give you a very intense and memorable fight.
