Anybody ever tried staying/fishing at the Indianola marina in the Pt Lavaca area? I am open to catching the popular stuff like specks and reds, but will settle for croaker and whiting too. This time of year, what are the most likely species (other than the drum run)?

Thanks!

Have a friend that has stayed at their cabins (trailers) a few times. The times he's fished at the marina have not been all that productive. The last time he caught Spadefish and some Triggerfish. Call the marina for a current report is your best bet. All kind of fish will run through this place. So bring your gear.

I dont think you will have much luck at the marina until the water warms up more. Probably another month. I fished early Feb last year and there were only drums.

Thanks Geo. The way it looks, might be March before I get a chance, but smart enough not to go during spring break!

I fished there back in November with the wife. We caught 23 trout. The fishing realy turned on when the sun set. Most were caught on DOA shrimp. The wife was using dead shrimp and caught a lot of sheephead and hooked onto a bull red that broke the line next to the railing. It was not very crowded and the staff was nice, I would fish it again.

I was there a coupl years back with a friend that owns a house about 50 yards from the boat slip.
That saturday night we walked over to the restraunt bulk head to see ppl piled in along the railing, catching trout.

the thing is the tide was outgoing and all you could see was shrimp by the thousands jumpng out of the water! was the most incredable thing I ever saw. all the guys fishing was casting silver and gold spoons while reeling them as fast as they could.
Everyone was nailing the trout! was all pure C&R but was insane watching all that action!

I never seen so many shrimp jumping. Literaly thousands of them in the air at once..

we stopped there for all of 10 minutes. doesnt look like a fishy spot but was told you could wade out to the oyster reefs and pull some fish in. Unless you have a boat i dont think there are really any productive spots in all that area

Reefs - yes.

Loooooooong wade to get to them.

Small Sharks will rob you of your trout before you make it back to land, or you'll have to be wary and fight them off.

Lot of gafftop in that area so lures are almost a must.
