I got the ziploc vacuum and it seems to work well in big gizzards. The only question is, should I wipe the slime off the shad or vacuum pack as is? Does the answer change if your freezing it refridgerating?

Yes, pat dry the gizzards with a paper towel, then freeze them. I have used 6 month old shad that still have bright red blood in them and catch fish.

Here are a few I have put up. This was 2 years ago and I saved 1 package to try soon.

They'll keep a lot longer vacuum sealed. If not going to be used soon I'd go ahead and freeze.

Is there a good vacuum sealer for cheap? Is that ziploc one worth the money?

Big Lots, Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc - most all them have the vacuum sealers for cheap.

Tuesday Morning too.

I don't have a vacuum sealer, but I pat mine dry, put a little salt on them, then squeeze all of the air out of a ziplock bag before I freeze them. They seem to keep quite well and the salt seems to help keep them from getting mushy.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting on the water looking like a darn fool.

The Ziploc ones work but I think in large quantities a regular sealer would be more economical.

I'd like the answer on that on myself. Where?

I am usually forthcoming with such information, but in this case my source requested that I not divulge the location on the forum.

When you don`t have a vacuum sealer the next best thing is to pat dry, salt and put them in a gallon freezer bag, Take a 5 gal bucket nearly full of water. submerge all but the sealing part of the bag, the water pressure pushing on the outside of the bag forces the air out of the bag. Zip the bag shut and freeze. Careful not to let water spill over into the bag.
