I wonder what would happen if I were to add a UV strip to the 240 LED Green Light I have been posting about. I could order a 72 LED UV strip to make one of the lights have 312 lights. I wonder if the UV would make GLOW Lures GLOW??

One thing to consider, as I mentioned in the other topic is that UV lights wear out rather quickly, that is they still produce visible light for a long time, but the ultraviolet that you are buying it for stops being produced after awhile, not sure how many hours that translate too but just something to think about.

They advertise them as having an 80,000 hour life.

well now that I think about it there is no issue with them unless you plan on making them permanent for like a dock or something. I was thinking 6 months is what my UV bulbs are good for, but that running them 14 hours a day everyday for 6 months. you would never use it that much if you are just using on piers and what not

I know flourescent lites lose there punch after a while I use them a lot in planted aquariums and you have to change them out every 6 months or so if you want your plants healthy I thought it was just a marketing gimmick but they really do lose their power . I wasn't aware LED's did the same thing.
My classic fishing boat,a restored and updated 1973' 14'aluminum Sea King w/a 1963' 18hp Johnson WTB a 16t ,17t,OR 17s Powercat, prefer a 17t{ to recreate my fathers boat}

Yeah, but will the UV LED's help to attract more fish than plain green??

I don't know about UV, but I wonder if adding a strip of blue or a strip of yellow may attract more fish.
The wavelength of green LED's is more a function of the chemicals making up the diode than the "optimum" color for attracting plankton/baitfish/big fish. It would be interesting to try different combinations and come up with a formula that works best.

If you do a search on UV light vision by fish you will find out that fish have a significant ability to see in the UV spectrum. What I don't know is if the UV light would attract them.
