Well I made a huge mistake and switched my boat insurance last year for Farmers to Allstate. I spoke with the allstate agent and explained my prostaff situation so there would be no problems. I told him I sell my boat every year sometimes sooner sometimes longer. Farmers had always given me a prorated refund with no questions asked. (since you pay for a full year) I bought my allstate policy 5-10 sell the boat 9-10 the yearly premiuim was $425. I just got a check back for $35.00 after arguing with my agent and then calling the disputes 800 number a slick talker got on the phone and told me if you cancel a boat policy early they keep 92% of the yearly policy. It's right there in black and white in the 30 pages of declarations they give you that nobody reads. Anyway just wanted to warn everyone and keep my promise to Allstate that I'd smear their name every chance I got!!

Sounds more like a bad agent than an actual problem with Allstate. Sorry to hear though.

I use Farm Bureau and they have always refunded me the unused portion of the premium for the year no problems.

Had Allstate for years and always did me right to include my claim for a bent prop shaft. I went to them years ago when Prudential said they could not insure my boat cause it went more than 55 mph. So I cancelled everything with them cause I told them my vehicles go more than 55mph too so see ya! I have a great agent with allstate and could not be happier so don't slam the whole company

Every insurance company does wrong to someone at some time...I had a bad adjuster from progressive kick a impacted lower unit claim up the ladder and get it denied because the damage to the prop was not real bad, and they covered the bent prop shaft and prop, but not the lower unit...A total ripoff, but since they "paid" some kind of claim, the insurance commissioner does not arbitrate amounts on claims, just if the claim is paid...Find out who does what in your area..bad agents, bad adjusters, bad policies...It can all be bad..I have State Farm, and they paid for my last lower without raising my premium..I also let them have ALL my policies..Home,boat,3 automobiles, and my mothers home and auto..That might help in the future too....

I had Allstate "not renew" my auto insurance back in the '80s, because their computer said the odds were I was going to be in an accident, since I had not had one yet. I will never buy or recommend anything from them. Never did have the accident!

they have to refund you the money. ive been through this before! they stall and lie but call the Texas Dept of Insurance and they will tell you the truth, your entitled to a refund. get a form from them and file a complaint and they will handle it for you. doesnt matter allstate has it black and white they have to follow state law. be persistent. funny thing is i had Farmers and they did this to me when i switched to Progressive. i got my refund back! hope this helps.

also make sure you put the cancellation in writing and make a copy for yourself!

Man I priced All-State and we have our house and 3 vehicles there and they told me $1300 a year on my new Ranger! I was like WHAT? Are you Sure? She was like yeap..... Thats when I told her I would pass.....

I may call the New Mexico Department of Insurance since I'm in NM and not Texas as one poster suggested. Thanks for the infomation. It wasn't just the allstate agent since I actually called allstate direct. Same song and dance as the agent. Guess I don't want anyone else to get screwed like I did. They messed with the wrong Bass'er though....I'm gonna be on the Better Buisness Bureau and every other site I can. Figure if I can cost them a couple customers it makes the $$$$ I lost a little easier to swallow

Why don't you message me your policy number and I will check on it for you. I can tell you for a FACT that is not Allstate policy. If you cancel your policy the unused portion is returned to you.

All-State is the worst!! The only good thing going for them, and anybody there should agree...But they had some smoking girls working their booth at the classic expo!! Other than that, they suck!
