I will be traveling to amistad from West Virginia in two weeks. I was wondering what if you guys think there will be some nesting fish or still prespawn? Any other tips would be appreciated. There is a wealth of knowledge on here but see very few folks talkin about Amistad.

jc or anglers lodge will be able to help or read kurt's report from last weekend. spwan or prespawn is gonna depend on the weather and how far up river you're fishing.

Stop into the tackle shop at Anglers lodge. If carl or jc are around they always are willing to help and point you in the right direction. Probably a lot of tournaments right now so a lot of anglers are tight lipped. I am going to head that way around the full moon in April myself.

You should really consider going to Falcon instead. Less boat traffic for sure

I just got back from 4 days at Amistad. There were plenty of fish to caught in the main lake from 10 to 20 ft deep. Mostly 2 to 3 pound fish. Water temp was 54 degrees at the end of the day. Caught them on a shakey head. I heard that the water was 58 degrees up the river and the fish were shallower up there. Hope that helps.

Just got back from there too. You should hit the spawn full blown on the main lake. The big girls will be in Burro or in the mouth of Burro. We caught a lot of fatties in the mouth of Zorro also, on a big grass flat. The fish up the Rio Grande will definitely be spawning around markers 21 to 25.
Remember that you will need a Mexican fishing license to go over on the Mexican side. You can purchase it at the Ranger dealership down there. They sell one day licenses, one week and one year.

launch and start fishing. still pay attention to the birds cause they are still showing clues. the fish are really active early on has been the pattern Ive seen. I mean really active.

I just got back from Amistad and after 40 yrs of fishing, that was the best trip of my life! I'm going back very soon and may stay a month. As Kurt Dove wrote, you can pattern the fish at Amistad and that was so true. Every point that had deep water, 20', coming by the point, held fish. Drop shot worked for me.
